Door locks

Heh, Not sure what that could be but does sound like the contacts compared to mine. My door wouldn't reconigse it was open or closed so the beeper for the lights didn't work and the door light didn't work either. Turns out the micro switch that tells weather its open or closed had lost its plunger. So i ordered some new micro switches that i got from rs components but vwvortex told me which ones. They weren't the right size but i could steal the plunger and other parts to make it work again.

There is only one rivet which holds the plastic bracket on which temporarily holds the module onto the door card. Mine has broken but its not that big of a deal as the main bolts on the end hold it. You will need to drill out the rivet and either replace it or as i said use a 5mm bolt and nut. Probably easier to use a rivet if you have one. Theres only one as well.

EDIT: Be VERY careful when taking the lock cylinder out. Unscrew it the very minimum otherwise it will fall out and forever be a pain in the ass.

Yeah it's definitely the contacts from what I have read. I've removed the door lock cylinders a couple of times and had no issues so fingers crossed I don't lose parts in the door next time I do it.

My driver's door does the exact same thing re. the lights and not knowing if the door is open. How long did it take you to do and do you have details on the parts that I'd need?

I thought mine could have been the contacts aswell untill i pulled it apart and saw that there was a laquer coating over the circuit. Had a look and couldn't see anything wrong with the contacts. One of the pins had rusted however. So put that back then had a look to see if it wasn't something else. Pulled it all apart again and it turns out the plunger ****ed as i said before. I made up a temporary fit using the end of a rusted nail which worked for a week until it stopped. Found out that the "originial" switches were these, However they are a different size and on the wrong side. So instead i pulled the switch apart and pulled the plunger out of it and put it into the old switch. Mounted it back up and so far so good.

The good thing is that if it is the 4th microswitch (seen here wire at the bottom and here you won't have to pull the entire thing apart.

The whole thing took about 4hrs but thats taking my time and with a bit of experience in pulling the door apart, but it wont take that long. Most time was just waiting for glue to dry.

I could never find out what the real switch is because all the part numbers relate to american sites which the Australian sites don't have. I guess you've read the vwvortex thread on them?

You are describing different problems.

The original poster needs a lock eccentric, which wont be helped by tinkering with the door module.

Lock eccentrics are easy to change on Mk3s, but a PITA on Mk4s. The parts should cost $50 or less, the $169 door lock will probably come without the bit you want.

I believe it does on MK4s, but definately not on MK3s.

Door lock barrel

In my case, the old one has no connection between where the key goes in and the rod out the end that actually unlocks the door

Well picked up the lock barrel today and fitted it after work. Took all of 2 minutes.

The lock barrel came with the rod out the end, keyed to suit my car and works like a bought one
