  • GTP R32's

Just wondering if anyone has any details or specs on the GTP R32's that were raced here back when they were new?

I heard a rumor that they were running 3.6L motors (unconfirmed) and was clear they had crazy front camber. Not sure what other details are available. They were smashing the Aussie V8's and WRX STi's they were raced against.

Also not sure if there's already a thread dedicated to this (apologies) if there is. I couldn't find it.

Pretty sure they 3.2, with lightened pistons, 282 cams. They ran 17inch bora sport wheels. Stuart McColl was killed in a black one at Phillip Island.

This thread has info on them.

Bug racer on here apparently has the white one.

I've got some more pics on my computer I'll have a look.

My understanding is that Bug-racer worked in the team and has knowledge of the whereabouts of the white one... and access to the engine... mmmmm

Had to be 3.2L - as it's GT Production racing.

bug_racer was one of the team mechanics, he could probably tell you more about them than anyone else on here. Otherwise quozl knows a fair bit as I'm sure he researched them when building up his tarmac rally car.

The 17" Bora Sports were used because they cleared the brakes and were lighter than the stock 18" wheels yet still very strong.

Stuart McColl's death was (I believe) traced to a "glitch" in the ABS system which locks out the brakes when it detects one wheel being airborn. Not nice...
        Nothing to see here...

yeah they were 3.2's, but well worked, particularly on the intake manifold.
Didnt really "smash" that many cars, I think they were at least competitive.

And yes, they do have an issue with the ABS, with the brake pedal going hard and not much can be done about it.
A lot of this was due to the extra loads placed on a car on a racetrack with semi/full slicks, not so much of a concern on the road.

Competitive? You obviously didn't watch any of the actual races. Every race I saw they were both (usually 2 in each race) winning buy a lot!

Didnt win the series at all, so it didnt "smash" the competition as far as i'm concerned?
Came 2nd in 04 I believe, which is competitive.
