  • Is the Bora 4motion right for me?

    Hello everyone,

I've been looking at buying a car for a long time now, and now times come up - and I need to buy soon. I've been looking at things ranging from the mk4 Golf GTi to Subaru Impreza WRXs.. Speed would be very nice, but ultimately it needs to be under $20k (less is better) and I'm very tempted to go with a Dealer simply so I don't end up with a dud.

I came across a nice 2003 Bora 4motion v6 sport that sits well in my budget from a Dealer - and looking at the specs, they're nice too - 150kW. However, I saw a 0-100 of 10 seconds.. What gives? or is Redbook wrong?

So can this Bora 4motion be compared to the likes of a GTI or WRX? Or is it completely different?

    Thanks all!
    Daniel

      Agreed around 7 seconds 0-100.

I've done around 150,000k's in mine over the last 6/7 years. I bought it when it was 3 years old and 60,000k's so over 210,00k's in total. 2001 model. It has good performance but not stunning. My chipped Polo GTI feels quicker in acceleration (unless the road is wet). The 4Mo has good low down torque which makes it easy to drive and the gear shift is really nice with good ratios. Fuel economy is pretty good especially on the highway. The standard suspension is a little soft. The all wheel drive is great on a wet road or gravel when you are used to high powered front wheel drivers.

A great touring car rather than sports car in my opinion. You should get a 2003 for well under $20,000. Make sure both thermo fans are running when the air con is on even when the engine is cold. Check that the interior rear view mirror has no 'water line' in it. Other than that as long as they have been properly serviced they are pretty bullet proof. Mine doesn't use any oil between changes.

Overall I am pretty happy with it still. Oh the headroom is a bit limited in the back seat.

as bora sport said, its a great all-round car with a nice engine and powertrain.
BUt if you want a fun car to drive i'd reccomend a bmw. My mate had a 325ci with 140kw stock and it was keeping up with my R32. Handling is great, it handled better than my r before it was lowered. I have a 20 year old 318is and its more fun than the r, especially hanling. With bore/r32 you will get understeer (a lot of it) which is typical for a FWD/AWD so if i was in your shoes i'd go for a nice e36 325/328 or an e46
Best is to take them all for a drive and decide for yourself

P.S. bmws are not as expensive to maintain as people might think

Somewhere between 7-8seconds 0-100 sounds about right.

as per above, it depends what you are looking for.
They make a fantastic daily driver with great low down torque, great interior and they sound fantastic with an exhaust.

If you're looking for something with proper performance and excitement, you should look elsewhere. It was the main reason I ended up selling mine.
