  • Wondering what this thingie does?

    Hi All,

Just having a poke around under the bonnet and I saw this thing. Not really sure what it does. Can anyone inform me?

This is what it looks like inside the airbox.

Almost looks like some kind of temperature measuring device? Anyone?

    ignition amplifier module

you'd notice anything from hunting idle/poor idle, to poor responsiveness or delay when you put for your foot down/misfiring .. apparently from memory anyhow but dont quote me lol

i have a link from an audi site somewhere how to test it, can look it up if you want?
    What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

Ok thanks for that Fuzion. So what do I do with it if I wanted to install a neuspeed p-flow pod type filter thing? Do I just unscrew it from the airbox and let it sit inside the engine bay? Or disconnect it somehow?

It's in the airbox to keep it cool. It should run OK in fresh air but if VW stuck it in the airflow, don't be surprised if it quits mid-summer due to over-heating.

So I'm a little confused still about what you would do with this thing if you installed an aftermarket pod filter. Would the best solution to be to attach it to the pipe just after the filter somehow?

Is there anyone who has an aftermarket pod filter installed that can provide some input and/or pics?

Just secure it out of the way of everything. I wasn't trying to be a doom monger with my previous comment, if you can stow it somewhere where there will be some airflow over it it would be better.

If you are fitting a cold air intake feed, try and divert a bit of that towards it?

When you unbolt it you can attach it to the chassis somewhere . The part that goes into the airbox is the heatsink . When this goes first thing you get is misfiring
