Check fuses as somebody else said. I went through a stinking summer last year with no aircon because i thought i was going to be a a lot of $ to fix. Then i gave the fuse on top of the battery a wiggle and all was fixed. The fuse wasn't actually blown, just a poor connection.

      Hi all,

thank you again for the feedback/advise/recommendations. The problem has been fixed and in the spirit of communication I thought its best to update everybody.

The final problem was indentified as being a trottlebody failure. Once a new trottlebody was put in, the idle went back to normal, the car stopped jerking and the airconditioning started to work perfectly! The car is back to its best now (fingers crossed at least for a while!)

Identifying the problem turned out to be a bloody expensive "trial and error" exercise so I hope this thread helps somebody else in the future.

      Thanks again for the feedback/help.
