Let us know if it truly does help though, and then of course pics or ban with the new pads and rotors.

Well according to the sticker in my boot, the codes pointed out by that web page would indicate mine are V0G and 1G2, neither of which appear on their site even if I pick Australia Bora V5 as the model. However, their parts list does indicate that it can take 288mm front on 16" rims and 312mm for 17" rims. So it is looking like 288mm is probably the standard size given that as standard the car has 16" rims.

OK, so back to ECS to see what they have in a 288mm disc ...

Doesn't appear so, to have 312mm rotors requires 17" rims, 288mm are required for 16" rims which is what the V5 comes with as standard. Now I know I have 17's on there now but my spare is still a 16" steel so I am going to need to stick to 288mm.

Back on the ECS site the kits I linked to in my OP include 288mm front rotors so I am getting more confident that they will be the right ones!

16" wheels fit over the 312mm brakes (that's what the Bora V6 4Motion (non sport version) came with. So that may not follow.

All Australian delivered V5s would have come with the same size brakes, regardless of wheel size. It's just a matter of determining what size that was - easiest way would be to call your local dealer, give them your VIN, and ask them for the part numbers for the front and rear rotors...

Enquired with my local VW dealer and now have the official part numbers. Posting here for reference, these are 2002 Bora V5 part numbers:

              1J0698151M - FRONT PADS 98>08
              8N0615301A - FRONT DISC 98>06
              1J0698451K - REAR PADS 1.00
              8N0615601B - REAR DISC 98>06

According to ECS this mean 312mm front rotors as suspected by goodfella!

Now I have discovered what to look under on the ECS site for V5 compatible parts : Jetta GLI

I think I am going to get the following rotors as they are a direct part number upgrade and are still half the price of the OEM ones from VW here!

Now I am not sure about what pads to get, there are too many choices!
