  • clutch upgrade / replacement.

Hi again.Really appreciate all the helpful advice. One more for you.Clutch replacement costs for the mk4 gti?Just factoring in as i,m looking at a tune.Would obviously wait till old clutch gives up the ghost. Also would the standard new clutch be up to handling the 30% extra power or do most guys do an upgrade and if so at what cost. Thanks in advance for any advice

    check this thread:

I wouldnt touch it though if it was still working, i still have my original one in with over 90k kms on it and have FI and its still OK. It could be better and its on the to do list but i'd be doing other stuff like brakes and suspension first . . ..

Dont leave yours till it explodes and throws pieces through the gearbox case, that is not a saving!!

      Flywheels are heavy to post.

You can replicate the solid mass flywheel setup using all VW parts.

TDI G3 Flywheel, or 16v Cupra Flywheel, or 8v Passat or similar. Basically any 4 cylinder VW that uses an 02a gearbox.
Standard or uprated VR6 clutch kit.

I have done heaps of these conversions and they go well.

I have also seen lots of broken dual mass flywheels, so leave it too long at your peril.

Matt, would that hold true for a 16v Toledo flywheel into a 4mo Bora?

4pot and 6 pot cranks have different bolt patterns. The 4mo clutch is bigger than 228mm IIRC.

          Goes to google....

          Gavin

EDIT Cupra etc is 228mm 4mo is 240

What's a fair price for a mechanic to change the clutch? (If you supply the clutch kit itself.)
