  • Alternitive R32 headunit

    Hey all,

Basically, from day 1 i brought my R32 he had it installed with a Pioneer AVH-P5750DVD; which is basically a unit that has a flip out screen la-di-da-di-da.

I'm wanting to know what the popular options are as an alternitive to the stock headunit, it's not that this one isn't great, but it pokes out of the dash and just doesn't look that great! Plus when the screen flips up it blocks my cup holders.

I don't mind taking the 6 stack CD changer out because who the f*ck uses CDs anymore, anyway. So obviously the unit will need iPod connectivity. I'd like to go the whole OEM route, but from the research i've done it seems very difficult.

So yeah basically, i'd still like a touch screen with all the bells and whistles, what can you guys reccomend!

I believe Zenec do a unit that is similar in function to the RNS510 but with added functionality due to MDI input and bluetooth built in.
It also allows the playback of divx files.

Also there was a thread done previously about this:

Mate, I'm in the same boat as you.
I still only have the factory setup. Would like to go nice double din full screen get up.

I've been looking at the Alpine stuff, just need to see one in the flesh and see how it fits etc. Maybe one with GPS, so don't have to stick one to the screen !.

i think you should go for a douoble-din unit. They look much cleaner and there are plates that you can buy to fill out the hole around the atermarket stereo
        this is what i have:

Its JVC, i cant remember the exact model. It works very well and very easy to use

ill find out the exact model when i get home tonite

I did it myself. I got the plastic facia (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK-4-BORA-STEREO-RADIO-DASH-FASCIA-FACIA-PLATE-/370372060471?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_FasciaPlates _SM&hash=item563be52537) from UK somewhere (3 years ago), the VW wiring plug and the antenna converter from a local stereo shop. Once you have all these its very easy to do. the cup holder needs to come out and the stereo goes into the facia and (with all wires connected) goes into the hole and clicks in the 2 tabs between the stereo and the cup holder. Nothing else needs to come off. DO NOT take the aluminium trim off, its very easy to break the plastic clips on the dash that hold it in place. And bob's your uncle

              JVC Products Australia : Welcome

This is the latest model of my stereo. Mine doesnt have sat nav or bluetooth. I had to get a separate bluetooth module.
All in all, its a great stereo
