  • Bora Running Rough - Need advice on multiple fronts!

    Hey all,

I'm hoping you can all help with some issues on my Bora running roughly. I've had the car 2 years, just had a major service and the car has 125K on it. After the major service I bought an aftermarket pod and intake pipe which meant removal of the old airbox etc for it to fit. I bought a new MAF, installed everything after disconnecting the battery etc and restarted the car and it seemed to run pretty well with a wicked induction noise too!

Now though, I am having the following issues:

    - If running the car for the first time for the day, car seems to run ok, fuel consumption, power etc, although occasionaly when putting the foot down it will hesitate and splutter
    - When running the car again anytime after this, even an hour later the car idles roughly when started, hesitates badly through the gears and fuel consumption seems higher
    - Occasionally the car will drop back to idle so low it will stall and sometimes struggles to restart

So, I have take the car to Volkspower in Burwood and they only had time a few weeks ago to run the diagnostics on it, and the main thing that came up was Oxy sensor faults, after faults were cleared at major service. Could this be Coil Pack as well (I have one single coil pack, not 6 individual), and if it is the oxy sensors, how hard are they to replace myself. Also need advice on how many oxy sensors the car has (2001 V6 4Motion) and where I should look to source parts, Ebay has been my only source so far.

Thanks all, any help would be much appreciated!! Trying to save cash where I can so realistic advice on what I can/can't do myself will help based on my experience with servicing tinkering with many different engines in the past with (mostly) successful outcomes.

Haha sounds exactly like my car at the moment. Dropped a cylinder i think and is running quite bad, taking it into service soon. I think it could be injectors or as you said the coil pack not sure will let you know on mine. As for the oxygen sensors (also bad on mine ) There are four in a bora, 2 post cat and 2 pre cat. I'f you find out that you have one buggered i ordered the wrong oxygen sensor and got the post cat sensor instead of pre cat so if you need that i have one. The oxygen sensor wont cause it to run rough it will however effect your fuel consumption as the engine uses it to determine how much oxygen there is left in the exhaust and adjusts the fuel ratio according to that. good luck and have fun

EDIT: Try ecs tuning nice and cheap. Also to replace an oxygen sensor its just remove the old one (With loads of pain and agony) And plug in new one nothing really to go wrong.

I managed to fix mine today. I First had the engine running and pulled out each of the spark plug boots which were all working. So it wasn't the coil pack. Decided to have a look at the spark plugs that i changed not very long ago. Heres a picture

Turns out after cleaning them with a wire brush to get rid of the crap it helped hugely now my cars running fine again. You might wanna give it a shot cant do any harm and wont cost a thing.
