  • Who has changed their accessory belt on VR6?

I noticed whilst under the bonnet that there seemed to be a bolt missing which tightens the belt tensioner:

I found a bolt and put it in which immediately quietened the belt which was the reason i was under the bonnet in the first place.

the belt does need replacing though as its starting to crack

So my question is has anyone replaced the belt themselves on a V6 and how easy was it? it doesn't look very easy to get to.

The bolt isnt supposed to be in that hole. Its only used for taking tension off the belt.
If its noisy maybe its the tensioner causing it.

Putting a bolt in there loostens the tensioner.
It is obviously something running off the belt making the noise. More investigation and info will tell you what.

          Take the bolt out!!!

Regarding replacing the belt its really not that hard, can be done in about 10 min or 5 if you attack it from under / over with the splash guard out.

Here is my reply to another thread regarding noise in that area. The tensioner pulley is a common source of noise on the belt, and it's cheap to replace. I would do the swap whilst you're there.

I found that my Tensioner Pulley was too flogged out to enable a simple bearing swap, so i did a bit of research and replaced the whole pulley and bearing with a metal pulley of very similar dimensions.
The ID of the bearing was the same, as was the width for the belt, but the pulley I got was a couple of mil smaller in diameter; no big problem as the tensioner takes up the extra slack.

It was super easy to change over and is now stronger.
For those playing at home, if you want to do this, go to Bursons and ask for a Nuline pulley #EP026. Costs around $34.00

Edit: I just noticed that this was a bit of a grave dig, hope you got it sorted out.
