  • Wheel options on a 4mo

    Hey all

The previous owner of my 4mo sport somehow managed to kerb all 4 of the stock 17" rims, as well as taking a chunk out of one tyre's sidewall (no leak, but might be iffy when pink slip rolls around).
As such, I'm considering my options for wheels, and wondering if anyone has any experience or advice

    - Is it possible/economical/worthwhile to recondition the stock wheels? some of the scratches seem pretty deep, so I'm not confident how nice they'd come out even if they can be reconn'ed

    - If I have to get new wheels, it seems to me it'd be worth going up a size (or two). What are reasonable options as far as diameter and width go? Keep in mind the car is currently stock, though I'd be looking at a small drop in the future (probably not as far as coilovers though)

    - Has anyone got, or seen, some nice wheels to go on a midnight blue 4mo? pics or links would be nice

    Thanks

    Heaps of options.
KW V1's could be had for a good price, as would something like FK's to come from overseas. The benefit of coilovers is gettign it sitting right and adjusting the dampening to suit how low you are, rim diameter, tyre size and quality.

Bora can easily handle 19s, though you could go lower with 18s. Widths, well depends on how you want to go. You would at least want an 8" wide (maybe look on vwvortex for some BBS RC's and can go through to 10.5"/11" on the back...

    5x100 with 57.1mm centre bore.

Could also look at some Subaru wheels....

Unfortunately rimstyle wont post to AU. I had decided on getting a set from them, and when I sold my 19's, went to buy a set off them and they said they wouldnt send here...bummer. Got a different set coming from tirerack. Great service and communication, and postage is very reasonably priced. Total is a lot cheaper than buying the same thing locally.

Widths and offset all depend on what look you're going for, 8" width with +35 offset is pretty much ideal for the front, fills the guards completely, when lowered the wheels sit a couple of mm inside them with zero rubbing issues. Stock height they sit dead flush with the guards. Rears in that size sit inside the guards probably an inch deeper, so a staggered set with 9" in the rear should give it that nice filled look. If you want some poke you'll need to go wider or use a lower offset.

Also be careful going with an offset above 40. You'd prob want to test fit before buying, to ensure that you have enough clearance for the brakes, think theyre a bit bigger on the 4mo too than the standard bora?

11s will require guard work or silly lows. 10s can be done easy.
There is a set of 18' oettingers 4 sale on here. They are sweet and suit the bora well.
You can do 19 and 20s, 19 would prob be ur maximum though, look up silver dubs bora, he had 19s and a small drop and it looked sweet
