  • Cat Question

    Hey guys.

Pretty sure my cat's gone. Weird noises from the exhaust I think. ~87k ks, 10 yrs old = cat likely gone

    Considering a magnaflow cat, metallic core, 11" long/gradual tapered. Part # = 59925

Wondering if anybody knows if this'll fit or not? I dunno the length of the stock cat, and if it requires an O2 sensor bung - and it isn't too easy for me to check it at the moment.

    Help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

You should get the cat checked. It is not a cheap thing to replace at around $300. The noise you hear maybe caused by rubbing, indicating a broken hanger. This is a lot cheaper to fix than replacing a cat.

As for the correct fitting you will need to tell us what car it is. Different models and years have different number and mounting for O2 sensors.

        mk4 Golf 2L.

As far as I knew, the gti and 2L should roughly share the same system from factory. From looking at online photos, the cat is mounted in a straight section, so length shouldn't matter; just wanted to be sure.

well it won't have the same downpipe as the exhaust doesn't come from a turbo, rather some sort of manifold block i presume... you could have my old downpipe for free if you want the cat out of it (done ~110k), or you can buy my downpipe and get the cat out of that...

but as has been said, might want to get it diagnosed first before wasting any money/time

Yeah, is probably cat-back that's the same. Thanks for the offer.

Sorta trying to diagnose it now so I can get it sorted quickly when I have time. Might just take it to a shop to get it up on a hoist when I have time.
