Keyless entry

Took my car in to a car accessory installs place to get keyless entry. Hey put it in but had problems getting it to consistently lock and unlock. Anyone else had any problems with this? Or any ideas of a fix. The fellas there said they would do some research and get back to me if they found where they were going wrong.

No - you use the key to remotely unlock/lock the car.

The system being discussed in this thread I assume is the proximity system, where simply being close to the car is enough to unlock it.

All mk4s come with keyless entry? Mine never came with a remote or anything only central locking. So that's why I sent it in to get keyless entry installed. Not proximetry entry thingy.

Early models didn't come with remote entry, no.

Fair enough on the proximity thing!

VW's........I've learnt nothings ever as simple as it sounds!!!! Hahaha

Yes! I have issues! I bought my MK4 with a fitted aftermarket immobiliser, and usually it's 1 beep to close and 2 beeps to open. It will always open *beep-beep*. But when I close it will *beep* (enabling the immobiliser) but not closing/locking the doors! It's extremely frustrating!! So I have to lock my doors with my car key, and, to make things worse, my driver side door wont close with the key ? So I have to walk around to the passenger side and lock it from there. But sometimes if I'm lucky, I'll press it to lock and it will enable the immobiliser and lock the doors. RAGE! If you find out anything, I'll be checking this thread
