  • Diff between 2001 and 2002

    Hi All

I posted up a week ago that i crashed my golf gti. Im after another one and looking at a 2002 GTI.

I had a quick search through and couldnt find the exact info i was after.

I just wanted to know what the differences are between the 2001 GTI and the 2002 GTI.

    Cheers

I think they traded the Recaro seats for trip computer on the dash.
Later models still had red bucket seats, just not recaro.
Also remote locking was not standard on early models.

Not sure about GTI, but the others...
headrest with cut out was dropped to a smaller filled in one
      upgrade to climate control
      seat styles as above
      possibly the audio headunit

but then again, might have been because i have a poor pack bora haha
      Bora gone

The earliest cars don't have the remote locking flip key.
MY01 and earlier have recaros, MY02 and later have plain old sports seats in a few different colours - depending on the paint.
Sunroof became optional on MY02 - most cars have them though.
MY02 has the 1/2 height trip computer.
MY02 loses the passenger side exterior lock
MY02 loses boot mounted 12v outlet.
MY03 seemed to get aero wipers - but mine didn't.

But really, the main differences are the seats and trip computer. There are probably other differences, but I've forgotten them.

i read that recaros were standard right though Mk4 GTI, just after MY01 they decided not to put "recaro" on the seats. easy way to tell is the seat airbag

Does it have RECARO embossed on the bag when it inflates ?

Nope. Later seats are made by Faurecia

Both recaros and the faurecia sports seats have airbags.

No, all Aussie MK4 GTI's are drive by cable. They have the 150HP AGU engine.

I think the Polo 1.8T engine is drive by wire (electronic throttle control) where as the Golfs are drive by cable (machanical / physical control). Hope that makes sense - the two terms sound very similar but are actually quite different!
