Hi Fellow Vw Freaks,
I Have A Question About A 2000 Vw Gti Golf. I Had A Honda Up Until Last Month But Now Ive Become A Vw Mad.. And I Want To Start Squeezing Some Mumbo Out Of This Engine So These Are The Mods Im Thinking Of Do : Air Box, Full Exhaust,bov,intercooler, Injectors, Fuel Pressure Regulator, Heavy Duty Clutch..
Now My Problem Is Euro Cars Un-like Jap Cars Are A Little Better In The Ecu Department So I Hear..
So I Was Thinking Should I Get A Tunned Chip For My Upgrades ? Or Go A Motec Fully Programmable Ecu ?
This Is Where I Come Un-stuck Cos I Dont Really Know Enough About Euro Engines And There Capabilities. I'm Hoping For Around 160-200 Kw Atw. Is This Possible With These Modifications ? ? It Would Be Nice If I Could Get Some Ideas From Some Fellow Vw Nuts...thanks

but i think u need to upgrade the turbo for that power.. i think the stock is only good for about 120-130kw's

If you're looking at that sort of major power figure I'd go a aftermarket ecu (There are a couple of guys on here with Haltechs). GIAC does have a tune they can upload onto your factory computer for bigger turbos (Ko4 ~145ish kw atw, GT28XX ~your sort of figures) but a totally aftermarket unit will be a little more customisable - although more expensive with installation + tuning.

And if you're after that sort of power you'll need an LSD, I struggle to get power down with ~130kw @ the wheels. As soon as the torque comes rushing the wheels just spin.

hey dude

im running a haltec E8 in my GTI had a few small problems at the start but now its great and it can be tuned to however u want the car to respond or run. U will get some change out of 3k so it a bit more expensive buts it the best way to go if you have big plans for your car.

There is a haltec piggy back computer which is just as good if you are not planning on going big and its about half the price

but by the reading your post you want big power.

if you are wanting over 130kw you have to do a turbo upgrade either the GT2871R which is the most common or im even thinking of doing a turbo out of a S15 and getting a manafold made up for it which would be a bit cheaper to do.

thanks for your controversial question.my personal recommendation is a MTM chip(tcca motorsport) as I have or there are many other chip manufacturers out there like OETTINGER,APR,GIAC and REVO to name a few.Also another good chip to look at would be CUSTOM CODE,speak to h100vw.There have been some issues with some chips,so make sure you take all gains on face value,best to drive a test car(happy to take you for a spin).
If you want to go bigger power,look at a k04 upgrade(good for 160kw +) with some of those tuners or if you want the really big power then its stand alone as VW18LT has said.
As for components,look at forge for IC and DIV/BOV(bovs not compatible with the vw management apparently).
Clutches,,,pm didz here,he researched the hell out of them..just did a order from the states.if no luck,pm me ,ive got a great contact in the states that will do cost price.
ill send you off a pm now with some other tips...

ide recomend motec as they are awsome if u wanna spend the money. I got m400 in the race car and an old m8 in jag xjs 6L V12. If u want i can put u onto a dealer that will fit it all and stuff to give u a good price and then if u need any1 to help with ur tuning with it i dont mind. Its awsome cause u can have the motec program on ur laptop and just play around with it while ur driving or watever but yea u can do anything with motec.
