  • Ethanol Fuel for Bora 4-Mo

Has anyone tried RON 95-Ethanol in their 4-Mo?

Do VW Australia have a stance on E10 mix? My wife's car is a 2005 Subaru Outback, Subaru took a while before they recommended that E10 was OK to use in their cars (and still not in all of them IIRC).

A quick search of the VW site doesn't turn up any mention of E10 or ethanol at all...
    Nothing to see here...

      I wouldn't risk it.
You get worse fuel consumption than you do with Premium so it ends up costing you the same at the pump anyway.

Also i have heard (may or may not be true) that ethanol can cause problems if you have it sitting in your car for a while (few weeks)
This would be a problem for me as i only flill up every 3-4 weeks.

I havents seen anything reference to ethanol compatibilty in the VW manual, although Europe been using e blends for ages. I tried e10 in my Pug 406 (listed as OK on Peugoet website) and I flet that economy was far worse and it seemd to lack the get-up-and-go responsiveness of PULP

I did some hunting 2 years ago regarding the use of ethanol fuel (when I was an unemployed, povvo uni graduate!) because it was cheaper and for the life of me I can't remember where it was, but I think it was linked off the BP or Shell website for the ethanol fuels and it had a listing of all the manufacturers and their assesmants of what could and could not run the blends.

Basically, VW did not recommend the use of any Ethanol blended fuels in any of it's engines at that time and I doubt that would have changed...

here's what a quick google turned up

Ethanol E10 fuel - Can I use it ?, is it safe??.
Volkswagen All Volkswagen petrol engine vehicles will operate satisfactorily on E10 but Volkswagen does not recommend it.

Can my vehicle operate on Ethanol blend petrol? : FCAI

so while you can, its not recommended it would seem.
