    Hi there.
    Welcome to the forum.
the boras are great. there isnt a lot wrong with them. in the V6s I believe the coilpacks are the most common thing that seems to be replaced.
guys that own them talk about the soft suspension letting it down, but other then that, dont think there are many 'cons' as such
I own a 2lt model and love it, would love to upgrade to a optioned up AWD V6 one day.
Keep sereaching the Mk4 section and you'll find heaps of info on the questions youve asked.

    Good luck on the search!

Main things to check would be that there's no alarms up on the dash, that all the buttons work and that the rear diff is OK.

Check the rain sensing wipers work OK too.

Check that all the fuses are in place, some faults can be masked by removing them.

If you can, get it to a VW specialist and have the ECU scanned for fault codes.

Common repair items are things like coil packs, o2 sensors, window and sun roof switches. All available locally and overseas.

They're a great car, amazingly sure footed. Very smooth with plenty of get up and go.

I use mine to tow 1400kg of tandem and race car about the place with no problems.

        Boras are generally bullet proof.

        Good luck with your search.

I bought a bora last november and love it i had minor issues with it.
It was running a little rough took it to camden gti in campbeltown they scanned it and found out that spark plugs are still original after 120ks, replaced with new ones and maaaate!! What a machine!
          I say do it.

Also check the cooling fans are working at low speed by putting the air con on (set climate control temp to Lo to force it on), if they pulse at high speed only then the low speed resistors in the fan unit are dead. Replacing the fan unit ~$1k, DIY fix ~$70.

Also check the airconditioning is working correctly, mine was not and it is currently in being fixed at a cost of around $3k.

Otherwise the Bora is a great solid car.

on the topic of A/C - a lot of the guys on this forum have had the A/C Flapper Motor die too. You will generally notice that the A/C may fluctuate, however this goes away when you put the A/C on recirc.

I bought my 01 4-Mo in March as a replacement for my hail damaged Pug 406 and its a great car. Serviced last week and was pleasantly surprised at the overall cost. Plenty of power, good handling and a real sleeper

Yep, same symptoms I had. Most likely the compressor has shat itself which then damages all the other components. You can get all the parts from ECS landed here for under $1k, that would reduce the cost considerably but I wanted to ensure I had local warranty.
