  • Cooling hose connector, missfiring?

    Hey,

    What a crap day. Out and about in the MK4 1.6 and the car starts missing on one cyl. Took the cover off to have a look, and in the haste getting to the spark leads, broke the connector off the hose that joins expansion tank to the 4 way connector that has cooling water going to the top of the radiator, the oil cooler, expansion tank, and temp sender (?).

    My question is what is the part number of this bit? It is not detailed and I need a new one!!!!

    Second question is is there a common reason to lose a cyl on this engine? How to check this?

      Bad lead, bad plug, bad coil, each could cause a single cylinder to start missing.

      VAG-CAT/ETKA doesn't give a part number, sorry.
      Nothing to see here...

        Mmm. Thanks for looking at that for me. Any idea what it would be called?

        The only detail on the thing is pa66 GF30, and no luck with googling that.

          Looking at VAGCAT, I reckon this is the number.

          VW would be the best place to go for a replacement.

            Looks right - the parts listing I'd found in VAGCAT simply said "refer to diagram), and it had part numbers for the seals etc, but not the main part.

            Golf/Variant/4Motion 1999 has it as part 5 (it includes all the various bits and pieces) - you need a VAGCAT logon to see the diagram.

            I'd be inclined to give VW a call though, give them your VIN, give them that part number and ask them if it's listed as matching your car. At least then you know you're on the right track.

              You guys are awesome. Looks like it's the right bit. At least after I get the bit I'll be able to drive it to Volkspower to get the missing sorted.

              Was quite strange. Driving fine, droped down to 3rd from 4th and no bang or anything, just lost a cyl.

              Hopefully not going to cost me the earth. I love cars when they break!
