  • Globes for 2001 Bora 4-MO

    Hi All
These questions have probably been answered somewhere in the forum. The low beam and high beam on my 2001 Bora 4-Mo are decidedly wimpy. What type of globes (H4 /H7) are used for the headlights and what brighter globes are recommended using the standard wattage. Thanks

There are plenty of options out there. There are recent theads on this too.
Just know that many of the bulbs available in stores do not meet the Australian standards and are deemed illegal in some states.
If must say ADR 55 or ECE R37 on the pack to be compliant.

Go to Car Bulbs, Headlight Bulbs, Xenon Bulbs from Philips and Osram, Philips Xtreme Power, Osram NightBreaker globes - Powerbulbs., put in the details of your car, they have all the bulbs listed, and even shipped from the UK their stuff's cheaper than locally available.

I'm running the Philips Xtreme Power headlight bulbs, they're excellent.

                  Looking at ONE headlight housing.
                  to replace everything you need:
1x H4 (covers low and high beam)
1x H3 (covers your built in fog)
1x 5W5 (think thats there name, to cover parker)
1x indicator globe (not sure what that is sorry)

So then obviously x2 to cover your second headlight.

So to answer your question. 1 H4 globe covers your high and low beam, buy 2 (1 pair) to do both headlights.

Golfs are different as they have one globe of low beam, and a separate one for highbeam (H3 and H7 off the top of my head)

Dylan's right, you need a single H4 for each side, an H3 for the foglight, W5W for the parker/city light, indicators are PY21W IIRC.

PowerBulbs gives away a free set of Philips W5Ws with every purchase over a certain amount anyway. I got all the bulbs for my front lights from them, including delivery, for less than the local cost of the Xtreme Power bulbs (I'm wary of eBay, always wonder if you're getting real Philips or ripoff Phillips...).

Thanks Guys , the description for each headlight component certainly clears up my confusion about the number and type of globes. Now to try and work out how to replace them! I thnk I read a How-TO article somewhere as the Battery side looks impossible.

It's really not that hard actually - there are covers that come off the back of the headlights, it's a bit tight, but not impossible (I certainly don't have hands sized for mechanical work in tight areas, and I got mine done without too much hassle).

Can be done. drivers side is straight forward. battery side you need to remove the intake cover (2 screws). i take my battery cover off also as it gives you a little more room to move.
Post up what lights you decide on and how you find them.

Just ordered some Philips xtreme H4 from powerbulbs. Pretty cheap at 22 pounds ($40) and free shipping and free pair of w5 globes. Will give the covers a go once they arrive. Thanks for the help. Will post more once I get the H4

Hooray! Received the H4 XTreme from Powerbulbs yesterday and spent this morning putting them in. If not for the clear lucid instructions from you fellow V-dubbers it would have been pretty difficult. The battery side was a pain due to space restrictions but I managed to ease the globe in after a few tries. Good thing they are keyed or I would have had a bit of trouble seating them properly. Tested, all works just have to wait till night time to see if these globes turn night into day LOL
