I can't scan it cause I don't have the stuff to do it. Maybe I'm better off forkin out some cash and takin it somewhere? Sounds like it's either fuel pump or relay or ignition amplifier? I guess if it's some kind of switch or relay or something along those lines it's not a big job. I hope!!!

It's dead easy to check the ignition amplifier. Remove the coilpacks and plugs, then stick the plugs back in the coilpacks with them connected to the loom, they need to be grounded, the cam cover will do. Flick the key while watching for sparks.

yeah i need to get the stuff so i can scan it, Where can i buy that from? Not sure on the fuel filter, I've had to borrow the mrs's magna for the weekend and havn't been able to check anything on the car other than the ignition amplifier like gavin said, and there is sparks. Hopefully i can drive it to work in the morning, then after work AGAIN if i can start it, drive it to my local mechanic and get him to scan it if he has time, or just leave it with him! don't want to get stuck on the highway or something. or at some traffic lights! could be awkward.

I just got home after getting towed. My missus was driving and the car just died. Oil light came on first then it died. I tried starting it and one time after about 15mins it fired so I kept it at about 3000rpm, then slowly dropped revs but then it died again. At home I got the NRMA and he said that the only thing that goes wrong with the 2.0 (mine is the AGG) is the coil pack. Mines cracked, which I've been meaning to araldite. He asked me to kick it over, and she started! Idled fine as though nothing was wrong. I'll ring my mech tomorrow and see what he reckons because my gut feel says fuel.

Ignore everything the NRMA guy says, those guys know piss all about anything. If it is more than a flat battery or tyre they give up and call a tow truck.

Just last week, on my GTI, I paid $177.80 and $41 labour to fit (25minutes).

My mechanic says he does one about every 2 weeks.

CRAP! i hope he doesn't charge me $280!!!!!!! is it possible to do yourself? I had a quick "google" and didn't come up with much. found one sorta diy, seemed not too hard, apparently just a squeeze to get in to where the sensor is, down near the oil filter somewhere?.

Haha yeah stuff buying a diagnostic cable, I'll just ask you!

Hahaha had to push it through with the mrs steering from the passenger seat and quickly jump in when someone would stop in front of me. Still ordered. It was a little bit awkward to say the least!!!!

if thats a cheap sensor (ie not bosch) then you may be replacing it again soon.

Mine ended up being the crank angle sensor as well. Lots of diagnosis to find the exact problem. $160 plus that to diagnose and fit. Happy now.
