I just put my deposit on a candy white 3 door mk5 with leather and xenons 44.5k drive away. There are a couple other guys here that have gotten deals under 40k too for basic spec cars tho. I didnt know anyone at the dealer. I jsut walked in and said. i know people have been getting deals recently. I know what i want. this is what i want to pay if you can do it ill sign the contract now?

But the key i guess is knowing what you want first. You want a car that when u lock it and walk away you just have to take a look back and think. yeah thats a cool car.

ask yourself in ten years, will the r32/megane still be regarded as a collectors car ??? hmmm
Frogs have equaly as strong a cult status as golfs. Maybe not in numbers but their passion for them is un-questionable. Renault have been reknown for taking big donks and rear mounting them into small cars such as the clio 6, and the megane is one of renaults successes sure to be one that will be hailed for years. I too was recently in the market and the toss came between a vw, a pug and the renault clio. All of them were great performers but I chose the golf (waiting to pick it up any day now) over the others based purely on the refinement of the interior. It was far superior to either of the frogs. I haven't sat in the megane, but if the clios cheap plastics are anything to go by then I'd dare say the megane just wouldn't have that quality feeling the R32 does.

From the research that I did I can tell you there is alot more information widely available in aus for tuning and modifications for the golf, probably because it is the more popular choice. There is also by far more workshops that will do quality workmanship on the R32 than you'll find for the megane.

IMHO i'd have to say the R32 and I'm trying to not be biased, but if the feel of the car is anything as important to you as it was to me then I think you'll find there is no comparison. In saying that - there are very few cars I've sat in that feel quite as good so it's a very high benchmark to beat.

If it's fast you want the megane might be quicker on paper but with so many aftermarket products available for the golf I'd bet my new GTi that you would be able to get better bang for your buck out of the golf.

Disclaimer: Ther is not a chance in hell anyone is getting my GTi really - it was purely meant to add enough emphasis to my point.

                Hi Mario
I had a 1996 laguna and i wasnt very happy with it. that car spent more time at the mechanics than on the street and id never buy anything that is not german again.
Megane is a fun to drive, but having that much power through the front wheels is not very good in my books. it looks funky and has a lot of toys inside, but if you want a serious car that will keep its price go for the R32. I have had one since April and id never sell it.
