  • Dash light fuse (ie. air co back lighting + switches)

    Hi,

I am looking for the dash lights fuse (ie. air co back lighting + switches) as they are not working.

I am having trouble finding the correct fuse, dose anyone know the fuse number?

    Thanks for the help.

Start here VWVortex.com - Here's a list of fuses for MKIV cars (fuse too for search)

Or just check every fuse. You can do this quickly with a multimeter as the fuses have test terminals on them so you don't have to remove them at all.

Squeeze the connector on the interconnect on top of the battery and see if stuff starts working.

I am also having this same issue, everything seems to indicate an illumination fuse. Ive been through every single fuse on the inside panel four times, and checked the ones under the bonnet but all are intact. Also went out for another look just then checking the most likely ones from the diagram on the vortex link. Is there any other fuses in the car that we may be missing? Nathgti, also check if your reverse lights are working, as mine have gone out along with the others.

Have you checked the dash light dimmer is not turned all the way down ?

Near as I can figure it the illumination lamps are fed from fuse 3 via the dimmer switch.

Fuse 3 is fed via the ignition switch from Fuse 176 at the battery.

There's a bunch of intermediate connection points though, lots of lamps across the dash and doors that get driven through connectors in the loom.

hey I fixed mine. I had removed the cigarette lighter the other day and it was not plugged in properly, plugged it back in and all good.

if its just the illumination for the air con dials hot cold fan speed and direction dials in the centre of dash sounds like the bulb could be blown pull the fan speed knob out good yank towards you then get a little bit of vacum hose push it down the hole over the bulb and pull it out check the bulb its very small but illuminates all 3 dials get yourself a new bulb shouldnt be anymore than a $1 hope this helps

Na its Climate control, not the AC with the knobs. And all the little accent lights are out too with the cc unit, like the lighting for the dimmer switch and elec windows. Still got all the interior downlights and dash lights work. Might check the glove box light and cig lighter plugs are in all the way too, it went out when I replaced the cradle for the CD player/AC setup and installed the CD player, so I had a fair bit of the interior out and something may have come loose. If that fails I'll be booking it in to an auto elec to have a look at it.

One thing I did notice though when I installed the CD player was there was no power coming through to the illumination wire, which is why I was thinking along the lines of a blown fuse.

Seeing as all these lights run off the dimmer rheostat, maybe check that as well.
