Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hey guys,

Reading the thread about key codes got me thinking about the key situation I have. I've only got 1 key for my golf, and the button doesnt work on it, so no remote central locking.

Basically I want to know if its possible to get new/another key for my car? and if it is, where and how I go about doing that.

The other thing it does which is super annoying is not central lock all the time. Sometimes when I get out of the car and use the key to lock it, it will only lock the drivers door, not the whole car. The only way to get the whole car to lock is to go round to the passenger door and lock from there. Any ideas what that might be? or how I might fix it?

    Cheers

    Alex

The previous owner of my GTI told me that Fuzion can code the remote.
    Maybe send him a PM.

The central locking issue might be your drivers door lock module.
Scan it or have it scanned and it should tell you if any of your locking modules are failing.
Apparantly the factory soldering is not the best or maybe is just not the best on our not so new cars.

Hopefully someone else can answer your key cutting question. I know you can buy them on eBay but obviously uncut and uncoded.

Not a bad idea to get a price from VW and compare that with whatever else you can get.

    Goodluck!
