  • Squeaks from Bora 4-Mo

    Hi All,
With the cold weather, I have just noticed a squeak from the front end at low speeds. Is there some way to lubricate any of the components to stop this annoying squeak

I think I've got the same squeak!

Noticeable at low speed as you go over small bumps at walking place, mine seems to come mainly from the drivers side.

Same thing with my Bora. VW diagnosed it as sway bar bushings. Just waiting for the bushings to come in as they are on backorder

Have you tried lubricating them? I recently removed by bars, cleaned the bushes and lubed with white lithium grease. Has done well, but the front mounting point with the aftermarket swaybar was gripping too tight. Spaced the bracket out with some washers, now is quiet and moving freely...

I think so as it seem to be from front driver side at low speed over undulating surfaces

Here is a basic guide assuming its the same as my Polo:

1: Prop up the front end
2: Remove wheels (for easier access, may not be required)
3: Disconnect the links on both sides (between the shock mounting and swaybar ends) - Socket set
4: Find the Brackets that hold the bar / bushes onto the frame (trace the bar going over the front suspension arms for location). Remove brackets - Socket set
5: Pull out the bushes, clean with degreaser, etc. Clean swaybar around bush location
6: Use lubricant (VW, Whiteline, White Lithium grease, I've read that plumbers tape can work well) on bushes. I try to use too much, the excess acts as a barrier to water / dirt getting in there later).
7: Reassemble, tight but don't overtighten.

While you have it all apart, make sure your links and bushes are in good condition. Replace if worn / damaged.
