I've just recently done a service on my 2000 mk4 Golf which has the 1.6 SR engine, and decided while I was at it I would give the good old TB a clean wiht some Carb cleaner. as it turns out there was lots of gunk which was stripped out and burnt off by the engine. (ie. tb still attached to engine)
Then with some hesitation it started and noticed the idle was out of wack! It would flactulate from 1200 through to 1800rpm, took it for a drive and still didn't go away.
I thought that maybe the carb cleaner might have dislodged some crap and bloacked sometihng else, so I gave it another clean with the engine running and also decided to clean the AFM, this time around it worked very well and the revs have now stabilized, tho now when it's being driven and come to a halt it stays just above 1000rpm and takes some time to come back down to 900 or so which is normar idle speed.
I'm lending my self to believe the TB needs an adaptation since it needs to re-learn its positioning and this is to be done with VagCom???
sorry for the noobiness but thish is the first Golf I've ever owned and I have never used VagCom before. May I also ask if there would be any shops or specialist that can do this and what would costs for such thing be???
I have done this to previously owned cars in the past with no major hassles, one of which was a 90 model Honda Integra which made a huge difference in economy and response, hence doing the same on the Golf was the idea at the time.
