  • Turning off the seat belt reminder chime?

I read on this forum earlier today that using the VAG-COM you can turn off that annoying seat belt reminder chime, so seeing as I am currently borrowing a cable I thought I would do it.

Found the code and the first two digits were 07 as expected which indicates that washer fluid (01), seat belt (02) and brake pad (04) warnings were active. The theory is that you subtract the number of the option you want to remove, so I subtracted 2 and changed the first two digits to 05, leaving all the rest the same. Clicked the "Do It!" button and all seemed good. I can even exit the software, run it again, load the instruments data and see the code still starts with 05.

But the bloody chime is still there!!

Do I need to do anything else? Tried turning it on and off a few times, even locked and unlocked the car, no change.

I found the best way to get rid of the chime is to do up my seatbelt...
    Nothing to see here...

can i ask is there a valid reason you want to do this?
are you driving at low speeds off public roads, or is it because you are using a 5 point harness on a racetrack or something like that?

if one of the above, and you don't need the normal seatbelt on, just wrap it behind the seat and plug it in.

The chime stops after a few seconds anyway doesn't it?

The seat buckle is hardwired on Australian cars, so you always get the gong for six seconds.

VAGCOM just turns off the emblem in the speedo, you will notice.

The reason I wanted to do this is it really annoys me! I have owned 11 previous cars over the last 20 years and never had one that feels the need to bong at me everytime I turn on the ignition. I don't need to be reminded to put the seatbelt on, it is something I do as a natural reaction after turning the ignition on.

Looks like I will go for the pull-the-plug option instead.

My car does not currently do any seatbelt reminder. So how do I turn in on ? or how do I determine that the feature actually exists ?

                  +1 just wear your seatbelt.
I may disable it anyway though.

I have to agree, i really hate that thing, I am big enough and ugly enough to know when to put my seatbelt on. dont need an annoying chime to remind me.

Its the first thing to get disabled in every car i own.

Since it doesn't come on under about 15-25kpk, those who claim to put their seat belt on as soon as the ignition is on would never hear it.

+4 just put the bloody seat belt on.

I have driven for 40+ years and this is the first car to have the chimes, so I could well argue that I don't need a warning. I could also argue that I don't need ESP, auto lights, seat heaters, auto wipers, climate control, or air bags.

it's annoying for me as I have a long driveway that I need to reverse out of each morning and it is generally easier to reverse down a long narrow driveway without your seatbelt, so the "ding ding ding" each morning does get a little tiresome

I do wear the bloody seatbelt!!! I don't recall a time when I have ever driving anywhere on public roads without it on.

It is so natural for me to put the belt on that I don't think about it, so I certainly don't need my car to remind me. It is just annoying.

That confuses my logical brain - I wear my seatbelt (which means the chime would never sound) but the sound which I never hear is annoying.......

There is probably some merit in the idea of having no chime while reversing.

Ah, now if the warning came on only when over 25kph then I could understand it, it is the chime when you first turn on the ignition every time that bothers me. I could change my routine and put the belt on before I turn on the ignition but as I say it is so automatic now to put it on after starting the car that it will be hard to change.
