Removing sump on my mk4 gti

My wife just drove down a rough driveway and punched a hole in the sump lost all the oil and drove the car about 10 ks home after all i told her if your ever going to stop for a light on the dash this is the one. not sure at this stage what long term damage has been done but can anyone tell me how hard or easy it is to remove the sump as it will need repair (best case scenario)

sumps a piece of cake.. inhex bolts by memory..see how you go replacing the sump and renew the oil and see if it starts/makes strange noises

Thanks, I removed and repaired the sump no signs of metal in the sump I also cut open the oil filter to have a look and thankfully no signs of anything. replaced oil and filter and crossed my fingers. The result is good no noises at all good oil pressure and the turbo runs and sounds just like it did. All I can think is there must have been just enough oil in there to keep the mains lubed. The wife doesnt drive it very hard at all so hopefully all is ok. Ill keep crossing my fingers for a while.

how'd you repair it? or you mean replace?
sounds like it was a slow leak, meaning the engine wasn't running for 10k's without oil, just leaking for 10k's.
either way it looks promising

I wanted to get the sump welded but wasnt able to on a Saturday where I live so I used Devcon (2 part epoxy product) works a treat. The oil was draining out of the hole for a bout half an hour prior to being driven the 10 ks but yes you are right whatever happend it (the car is still alive !!) just been for a drive into Byron Bay from Mullumbimby (about 60 k round trip) down the highway and so far so good.
