  • Will a Bora 4motion exhaust (cat back) fit on a V5?

As the title says! Just wondering if a Bora 4motion exhaust from the cat back would fit on a V5?

Obviously the rear lip needs to be changed.

Seen some threads about putting R32 exhausts on the 4motion recently, so thinking there may be some 4motion systems on the market soon!!

I'm curious as to why you'd want it? Have you heard there is a benefit?

Given I also want to change my zorst somehow, I'd be happy to flog you my exhaust when it comes time - I am just struggling with understanding if its a good move forward for your ride.

Not expecting any performance gain but the muffler may be different so might sound different (or maybe it is just the end pipe that is different). Mainly I like the look of the twin pipes out the back rather than the hidden ones.

Happy to take your money when the time comes, but I bet there'd be some very knowledgable 5cyl guys that could come up with some very good exhaust solutions for you - probably better bang for buck too.

You could be right. My other option is a custom system complete with high flow cat, now that would provide a performance gain. Don't think there are any aftermarket systems for the V5, very little of anything specific for the V5 actually!!

Just investigating options, if I could take an old system off someone's hands for a good price then that would be the simplest option.

OK, so ECS have a range of cat-back systems that apply to all MKIV Jetta (Bora) models, so I guess that means the 4mo will also fit the V5. Big assumption as they don't have the V5 in the US.

Question now is, is there a difference between the 4mo cat-back section and V5 one other than the tips?

I would say that the Bora/Jetta 1.8T spec systems would be more compatible given you dont have a rear diff and axle to pass... then it would prob be identical on the cat back...

              I'll prepare a flame suit ...

Hmm, perhaps I should bring my ramps into work one day and get your car up on them to have a look!

Miltek and Remus both do catback systems for the v5. A custom system would probably be better value though and any decent shop should be able to design a muffler that will give you the sound and look you are after. You should be able to get a shop to build a stainless system for under $1k

Be careful when they say "all Mk4 Jetta" - what they mean there is "All US Market Mk4 Jetta" - they didn't get the V5 or V6 4Motion there, and there are certainly differences between the FWD and AWD Jettas/Boras.

The V5 is a very similar engine to the V6 (some say it's simply the V6 with a cylinder removed). It shares many components, not sure on the exhaust diameter etc though. Unfortunately it doesn't feature in my Bentley manual, will check ETKA though...
                      Nothing to see here...

I also read somewhere else that all Bora's/MKIV Golfs have the same diameter exhausts except for the 2.0L, think I read that on a UK forum where they do get the V5.

Very frustrating that there does not seem to be any workshop manual for the V5.

If it helps at all the Remus exhausts have the same product number for Bora 1.8, 2.0 & 2.3 variants

Remus UK - Performance Exhaust Systems 2.3l V5 125 kW

Just to confuse things further, the Miltek exhaust for the Bora V5 is also for the VR6

All FWD - by that I assume the AWD versions are different then (as goodfella thought, due to the issue of the rear axles/diff clearance).

You could be right about the fitment being different, however I would expect that the 4mo would have things for the piping to avoid that the V5 wouldn't have, so really shouldn't be an issue unless the hangers are in a completely different place.

This is proving to be quite interesting! I really need to examine a 4mo and compare to mine, might try and look at goodfella's however as his car is lowered I am not sure I will be able to see under it!!!
