Ah, we both seem to have the same tickle in our throats!

I do find I get the front wheels scrabbling for grip but then my tyres are not great. Will look at getting 17's with some 225/45 rubber before spending money on something like this.
Do yourself a favour when you upgrade, go with 17x7.5 wheels, and through 235/45R17 tyres on - much cheaper in that size, and you'll actually correct your speedo a little.

OK, rub it in, I could only afford a V5 at this stage.

There's nothing to be ashamed of there. 125kW/220Nm through the front wheels, that's more in both regards than a stock GTI of the same era!
    Nothing to see here...

So am I correct assuming that all Aus delivered golfs have the 114mm ring gear (as there are 114 and 113mm versions)? It's nice this comes up, on my way to uni this morning it was an intersting affair taking off in the morning rain, wheels spun without even trying (Falken FK452 ~1000km) and I'm upgrading to a K04 soon. Is there a significant difference between the Quaife and the Peliquin? I know they both have Q in their names...

Very good question on the ring gear - one of the workshop guys (Golf_Loon, JMac, Bug_Racer, etc) may be able to answer that.

Peloquin have the following pages up for their 02J diffs (the first is the 114mm ring gear version, the 2nd is the 113mm ring gear version)

        Peloquin Transaxles
        Peloquin Transaxles

From those pages, the Bora V5 uses the 113mm ring gear version of the gearbox, and thus this deal won't suit them.

Regarding differences between Quaife and Peloquin, I believe they're both gear-style LSDs, and so don't have clutch-packs that wear out and need periodic maintenance. Gear-based diffs are also smoother in operation than clutch-plate designs, as they "come on" more gradually, whereas plate-style diffs can come on very suddenly and feel like they're snatching.

Peloquin do front and rear diffs for the R32/4Motion, but Quaife only do the front diff for these it seems.

Another alternative is Wavetrac - their product is also available for the 02J 5-speed gearboxes, but unfortunately not for the AWD 02M gearboxes (otherwise I'd potentially have one).

I just sent ECS an email with my vin. Another thing to consider is that the Quaife doesn't come with an install kit whereas the Preloquin does, so you can add $85US for ARP bolts plus whatever else you need and with the crap Aus $ it comes in at just under a grand to my door...

that'd be tempting, i'd put one in at the same time i refurbed my gearbox, because my gearbox is really starting too get notchy and hard to get through the gates or however they work. It's like my selector fork has gone all wobbily.

i wonder how much a gearbox refurb and install of this bad boy would cost...

i had my peloquin installed cost 2 grand for a full rebuild and to be honest it doesnt do as much in terms of take offs as people assume
its a lot more noticeable in turns, handling or accelerating out of corners
mind you i have **** tires so it probably has something to do with my wheel spin haha!!!

                Got an email back today:

ok the peloquin aswell as bolts, comes with "new bearings and speedo gear "
Obviouslyl this would take the order over $1000 therefore attracting duty and gst, so what exactly are these parts, and can you just source them locally?
I'd be getting my box rebuilt when i install this so i presume whoever does the gearbox rebuilding could readily get new bearings and speedo gear?

ok i've basically answered some of my question here, ecs just have the ARP bolt kit
                      Volkswagen Golf IV 1.8T > Drivetrain > LSD > ES#263764 ARP LSD Bolt Kit - 02A / 02J Transmission Only (5-speed) - 204-3002 US$85 (+ shipping)
but you can buy the whole kit elsewhere, eg from 034 motorsport including ARP's bolt kit, end cover gasket, carrier bearings, speedometer drive gear and o-rings from Volkswagen.
                      02A/02J Differential Installation Kit - 034 MOTORSPORT US$185 (+ shipping)
they charge a fair bit for shipping, so i'd probably get the street dogbone from them with the same order...

and by the sounds of it, you can buy the parts from VW, but you'll just be saving money buying the complete kit from 034.
though you may be able to reuse your old drivegear... so not sure if you NEED the whole kit or not.
