  • A few questions. Soon to own a Bora.

    Hey all.
So i've found myself a nice Bora, pretty keen on getting it and get some modifications done on it.

    So some questions.

    1. What is the standard ride hight?
    2. Standard spring rate?
    3. How much travel in the stock suspension?
    4. What seems to be the most appropriate sized rims, 17"?
    5. Most appropriate offset on 9" wide rims?
    6. Tan interior easy to come by?
    7. 2.5" exhaust for the 2L?
    8. Engine modifications; what seems to be the norm?
    9. Have i asked too many questions?
    10. Are kits available to shave the notch in the bonnet?
    11. What body parts do they share with other cars in the MK4 family?
    12. Anyone have pictures of a bora with body rust?

Sorry if some of these questions are basic.
    Thank you for your time.

    Argh, damn it!
Have a look through the bora buying guide sticky at the top of the mk4 golf/bora section, very handy!

Just buy a V6 4mo and save the trouble?

My car got rear ended and subsequently was written off. The insurance claim was then denied leave me out of pocket ~12k. So starting from scratch again and i simply can't afford a 4mo, as much as i would love one i don't have 15k laying around for a car.

Sounds a bizarre set of circumstances - unless you were doing something to cause yourself to be rear-ended, you should be able to seek damages from the at-fault driver (or their insurance).
                  Nothing to see here...

May I ask who you were insured with and what was the reason for them to refuse your claim?
Just might put the rest of us at ease knowing what actually ocurred.. that is if your willing to inform us.

That's bad news mate, did you have blacked-out taillights? I think I've seen your old Lancer on the Coast a while ago too.

                        The incident was as follows:
                        I merge onto the M1.
                        Stuck in heavy traffic.
Traffic thins out, speed up to around 70-80km/h.
For some reason the car in front hit brakes hard out.
                        I've hit brakes pretty hard.
As i was coming to a stop a ute with bull bars has hit my ass at around 60km/h.
Subsequently pushed into the car in front. Crushing both the front and rear end. (Lucky i didn't have my carbon on :S)

Insurance was denied due to the ute drivers history. He lost his license 2 years ago. His claim was denied. My insurance said they wont pay out because his wouldn't or something? Currently the ute driver is opposing the denial, if that isn't successful then will probably be small claims courting it up.

Here is one of the only photos i have of it with the custom front end (Finished two days before the accident, resprayed the day before. )

If your not at fault, your insurance company should be sorting it out.
                          Who is your insurer???

Poor old panda. I know how much time and effort you put into the 4 door front end conversion on your coupe, and its sad how it ended up. Hopefully something can come from the insurance situation and you can at least get something out of it. Heard a few horror stories from uninsured idiots getting into crashes and leaving the ppl they hit up s*** creek.
