V5 idle speed?

Can anyone confirm what the idle speed should be on a V5?

My Bora is idling at 700rpm and it seems just a touch too low, you can feel it in the car. Is this something that can be adjusted easily or does it require an ECU change?

Its done by the computer. If it feels rough then check for an open vacuum line.

It is definitely running rough on idle and often hesitates to pickup when I go to pull away. Suspecting either coil or vacuum hose.

I have been quoted by a local supplier $100 each for coils, that seems about right, even ones on ebay are close to that value when you factor in postage. Is there a cheaper local supplier?

Anyone have details on the vacuum line routing on a V5 Bora?

You can get a set of 6 from ECS for USD$120 plus postage (cheaper if you're in the GB I'm helping run at present). Not sure if they got the V5 engine, but if the V6 engine ones are the same (I suspect they are), then you'll get a full set of legit ones with a spare for less than 1/3 what you'd pay locally.

What is the part number you are ordering? Will try and find out if the V5 ones are the same, or perhaps a V5 owner can confirm if they are or not?

I can confirm the V6 coils are exactly the same as the V5 coils. I bought some a while back from ECS, all of them on the site are revision N. I think it cost me $25 per coil or something like that, got a few spares now Got one locally when one died to get me buy and paid $90 for the single.

Great! Thanks for confirming. I am in the ECS group buy to get a set of 5, figured at that price I might as well just go ahead and replace them all so I know what condition they are all in. I know one was replaced by the previous owner but the others might be original.

OK, so after further reading and another week of running the car I was beginning to suspect the MAF sensor might be faulty producing the rough idle. Today I was going to get the part number off the one on my car and start shopping around, unplugged it (the plug red plastic is breaking up, bits fell out), decided getting that spring clip off needed more than just my fingers and decided to do it another time. Plugged it back in and started the car ...

... running really rough now and engine light and TCS lights both on. Hmm, unplugged the MAF plug and plug it back on with a good fiddle. The lights still stayed on. Dropped in to the local VW dealer just down the road and asked them to check the diagnostics. Interestingly it is now idling very smoothly!

Apparently there were fault codes from the MAF, coolent temp sensor and lamda (sp?) probe. He has reset it and suggested I just keep an eye on it, maybe try replacing the MAF and temp sensor first as the lamda probe is expensive.

Is it common to need all 3 replaced? He was telling me that when the MAF goes wrong it can cause damage to the other two sensors.

Anyone have the part number for the MAF on a Bora V5? Is it the same as the V6?

ECS sell two economy kits for the 24v VR6 engine which would be very similar to what would be required for the V5.

The cheaper one consists of airfilter, spark plugs and MAF.

The more expensive adds the O2 (aka lambda) sensor.

If the V5 takes the same MAF as the 24v VR6, I have a working one you can try.

Just looking on the ECS site, they have a universal lamda probe (aka oxygen sensor) for US$95 which is not too bad. They also have the coolant temp sensor for either US$15 or US$27. Not as scary as I thought they would be!

Just need to get confirmation on the MAF part number, I think I have to take it off to see the part number so would be handy if someone has it to hand.

Will be heaps cheaper than changing lots of random expensive parts.
We also have parts that we can use as a test unit to diagnose your car.

Do you work Saturdays? That is the only day I would be able to make it. Might be a last resort if I can't diagnose it myself or with local help.
