  • R32 - Sat Nav Headunit

    Hi all,

Have recently been looking to purchase a head unit with in built sat nav and all the other gadgets that you can get theses days, but am bit stumped as to what are some of the higher end better quality prodcuts in terms of functionality, navigation, quality etc. I am really keen on the Zenec 'ZE-NC2040' but am unsure if it has Australian compatible maps? and i also like the Clarion NX700A but am unsure what fitment in the golf is like.
Any information or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, btw i have a MkIV R32.
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section
    Thanks in advance

    cheers
    Matt

Zenec units use Igo8 software for maps.
A quick search on here should give you some threads about them and the software updates.
Google igo8 australian maps and there should be a thread on GPSunderground with the updates.

Zenec unit's are built specifically for VW fitments so it should be plug and play.

Hi at the lower cost end of the market there is Witson, there are two specific models for Golf/Bora IV

        ZHUHAI WITSON INDUSTRIAL CO.,LTD.
        VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5(W2-D9230V)
        VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT B5(W2-D728V)

Both models same price, I paid $446USD delivered including Maps (IG08 / using Navteq 200 and TV (I'll be interested to see if that works). I'm installing this weekend I'll post some feedback after its done.

As mentioned there are some good sites telling you how to upgrade the maps this link was the most recent iGO8 for Windows Mobile, CE, PDA & PNA with Australia Map and Extras but some of the links don't work so you'll have to resort to google

E-mail: anna@witson.com (email Anna very helpful, the price included the paypal fee - I received DHL shipping notice via email and arrived 48hrs after it was sent)

That is why i am looking at going with Zenec for my car.
I want it to look as oem as possible without having to pay $1200 for map upgrades.
I am talking to a guy in England at the moment who sellls Zenec unit's and delivers to Australia.

GPS underground wont work for me either but a quick google search for "igo8 australia maps" shows up lots of sites that can help with your map dilema.

Let us know what you end up going with.

thanks for the suggestions and reccomendations guys ... but i have my heart set on the zenec its exactly what i want because of its functionality and oem appearance.
the only problem im having now is trying to source nc2040 for the .:R it looks like i might have to chance my luck on ebay.

              thanks again

Ebay should't be an issue if you check the user review and contact them before you buy to make sure you get all the right stuff.

Also if the cost of the item is over $1000 you will incur duty and gst charges when it goes through customs.

Lets open it up and see who has what and what they think to the headunit they are running.

I know I have been thinking of swopping out mine, just not sure which direction I want to head in yet. OEM would be good with upgrade clocks so have all the good gen right in front of you..

                      So who's got what ?

Me. just standard as a rock for now.

It seems a shame to me to have all the real estate of a double DIN facia and then a tiny screen, especially if you want a great ipod control experience, you need a 6 or 7" touch screen. The xplod styling is a bit out there for me, does not exactly blend in!

For the record I am running an Alpine IXA-407EBT, nice big 7" touch screen, ipod control (including artwork display), bluetooth and reversing camera. Does exactly what I need it to and does it well.

Ah! I was thinking of this : WX-GT78UI : Xplod

That one with the 6.1" screen looks good! I see on the Sony site they do a 7" as well.
