I have a MKIV with the same issue, except it is the right rear door.
PITA - It first started as an intermittent problem, but now is stuck in the locked position.
I've read that faulty soldering on some of the wires in the actuator module can be a cause of this. Some lube would probably be good once I have my apart.
What lube should one use for these things? Graphite? WD40 etc?

From this picture, could you loop some thin guage wire down the button slot and pull it up? I might give it a shot this evening.
