  • BMC CDA owners

Ok, well I've read plenty of threads whilst trying to decide on whether I should part with my $$$ for a BMC CDA and am still non the wiser. Most of the threads end up in a debate, but what I want to ask is just to BMC CDA owners, if faced with the decision again, would you part with your money for one?
    Thanks,
    Al

I could not justify paying the asking price of some places i.e. $680
I got mine for a lot less.

Where did you get yours? I got a quote of $600 from Autobahn, thought that you wouldn't get it much cheaper than that?

It was a bit of good timing. I called Guy Harding and he had one from a customer who had it on an A3 for about a week, then decided to change to a larger MAF. So it was available 2nd hand 1 week old for about 30% off.

Have a look around on the FS sections on some forums too.

I couldnt justify the price so i went for the neuspeed one. I love it. I dont think you'd get any more airflow from the BMC

I like the idea of the CDA as it's not an open pod as such, I like the look of the Evoms too but they seem to agressive for me.

I think this is what dyldo has on his Bora. It sounds like it's going to suck up cats, dogs and small children.

It probably got him some extra power too!

Yeah well I'm going to put a K04-001 in the loop, so should make getting the CDA a bit more worthwhile too.

I just went and ordered my CDA today, parts: CDA85-150, SASSH7080 and SA16-40 as was listed on the BMC site for 150HP GTI 1.8T and as also still shown as the right part at JBS CDA: Enclosed Intake Systems (A3,Golf MkIV 1.9TDi, 1.8 20v) - JBS. However I just went on to the BMC sight tonight to show my sis what I was getting and the part numbers have changed! All three of those parts were listed before but now just one part CDASP-05 is listed http://www.bmcairfilters.com/VisModel.asp. The difference I see is that the old part has an 85mm outlet size and the new one has a 70mm outlet, I still think the one I ordered will work but should I try and get my order changed?!

Just looking on some tuning sites and the CDASP-05 is listed for the 180HP GTI. The 150 and 180 were seperate before on the BMC site like the tuning sites but they are now combined. Also says the SP-05 CDA is specially for cars with 70mm MAF...

Contact them and ask - let them know you have the 150hp AGU engine, and get them to confirm (in writing) that the part they're going to ship will suit.

Got an email back from Link Auto (the Australian distributor) today:

There are two types of BMC kits for the MKIV 1.8 GTI Golf – one for the 150HP version & one for the 180HP version. The difference is in the Bosch airflow meter. The 150HP version runs an 80mm airflow meter & the 180HP a 70mm unit (I know this sounds back-to-front as you would expect the 180HP to run the larger version). The kit that you outlined in your email is designed for the 80mm airflow meter, and the CDASP-05 for the 70mm. All the components and the CDA85-150 kit that you have been supplied are correct.

                              Kind Regards,
                              Anthony Romanczuk

So if anyone else wants to buy a BMC CDA then they want to be careful they don't buy the wrong one!
