  • Bora radio antenna Change

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has changed the antenna on their bora. I don't like the large stick type and would think that a bmw type fin would look a bit better. Has anyone changed theres or has any suggestions.

    Cheers

yes. you can either change the whole piece, or keep the base and put a stubbie stick on top (this is more popular id guess) think you can get them from Dub Addiction.

There is a good writeup here on how to swap the antenna out for a shark fin style one:

Let us know how you go with it!

(i think the fin style antennas can be bought for about $80-$100 or something, but make sure to get one which actually works and isnt just for looks! Depending on if you have GPS in the car, this may need to be connected when attaching the new antenna)

You can get the stubby arial shown in that thread for $30 ish. Just screws on to replace the whip style (25cm ish) OEM.

Stubby is MUCH shorter, I have a photo somewhere comparing the two.

Is the stubby one OEM? What looks better in your guys opinion. I quite like the idea of the shark fin but the stubby one is much cheaper and easier.

I think a sharkfin can look really good, the one in that DIY does not look the best.

the stubby ones take litterally 20 seconds to change. There have been some concerns voiced about the reception quality of local aftermarket ones, I got one from ebay UK for less than $30 which is supposedly OEM.

The really short ones have trouble with AM reception if that's an issue for you. Mine's kinda half way between a stubby and the full whip, and I think looks good (I personally found the stubby looked too short for my liking).
                Nothing to see here...

Got any pictures i could see. And no not really mostly FM.

Im kinda tossing up between the two. I like the shark fins for the look but its going to be a bit more of a pain to do but shouldn't be that much of a hassle however if the stubby ones dont look too bad it would be easier and cheaper to install.

I was thinking of buying a double din headunit aswell with tv and all that so does that require a seperate antenna?
