  • 4mo front lip size

    Hi all,

Looking at getting a 4mo front lip for my bora (from ECS as apparently they have one that'll fit my 2slow), just wondering if anyone can get me a measurement of overall height (red), and also the height (green)/width(blue)/depth of the two outside cut outs on their lip.

    Thanks in advance

The lip starts off at 110mm right at the tyre and comes up to be 100mm as it turns accross the front of the car.

That opening is 50mm high but it's not consistantly deep. Right accross it's 255mm but only 100mm of that is very deep.

Could you do me a favour and report back on the height of the 2.0 Litre unit?

I've got a stupidly steep driveway and I'm scraping my 4mo one everyday. Might be an alternative.

i've been thinking of updating my valance to the 4 motion valance as well dyl so i can first of all match my rear but also bring it a bit lower in the front and make it look a bit chunkier.

I've been looking at the ones on ECS lately and they are really cheap at the moment.

I'm going to ring vw next week and get a price of them, reason been is that when i got my rear valance i think i paid about $130 from vw but ECS sells them for $200+.

Whats wrong with your valance Dyl?

Thanks Peter! ill get some measurements on mine tomorrow and post it back here. i currenlty rub mine in my own carport if i drive in at over 5km/h so i wanted to check it wasnt to much lower as ill be dropping the front more soon

Tim, yeah i think they look better, plus dont have to paint them unlike others.

Mines dead (im surprised you haven't noticed before haha) it was kerbed on the passenger side by the previous owner, and the front "opening" was split on both sides. I took it off and screwed a flat metal plate to the top of it on both splits and painted the screws so its holds together a bit better, if you look for it in photos you can see it hanging or since i had a crack at repairing it bends down on one of the splits.

Id be keen to know how much they cost locally, iv got one down for the next ECS GB currently.

            Hey Peter,
            Sorry for the late reply.
I think the depth overall is very similar to the 4mo, but it curves up to the front instead of coming almost straight forward to give that vertical shape at the opening like the 4mo.
I really struggled to get a measurement on it due to the curve sorry.
I guess if you need a few more cm clearence just at the front it will do the job. I know i wont be upgrading just yet as mine touches just about everything at current height and by swapping it will basically make my car longer and a bigger problem.

Just to update this. the bora 2lt and 4mo ones are the same heights as far as i could see.
difference being the 4mo is squarer, making the front have more over hang at the lower point.
...meaning if the 2 lips were taken from flat ground up a ramp the 4mo is likely to scrape.

I have looked at a few options for the 4mo lip, mine was damaged at some point and replaced with one from a 2.0

I haven't been able to find a dealer who will supply one for under $200

Volkspower quoted me $105.70 plus freight for a new one yesterday.

I priced one from ECS and it was US$104.95 + US$251.75 fright so that was out of the question immediately

....edit: I posted before I realised that Dylan had brought this thread back from the dead, but still good info all the same.

I need a new lip on mine, the old one has been destroyed during a previous life. Also need new front fender liners as both sides are shot, can these be bought locally as well? ECS have them cheap as hell but frieght is stupid due to the size of them.

As both Dylan8 and Djorkboy know, I've been chasing one for a while...

No one wrecks late model VW's in Canberra... (With late model being anything watercooled)

                        FYI:
                        1 - 1J5 805 903 B B41 (Standard) - $130
                        2 - 1J5 805 903 D B41 (4 Motion/Diesel) - $130
                        3 - 1J5 805 901 A B41 (4 Motion - Spoiler Version) - $210

Volkspower quoted me a part number for the 4mo one as 1J5 805 903 BB41 which now doesn't look right

I have sent back to them and given the part number as above, but I'll bet the price is going to go up considerably.

...that is if they bother to reply, so far my dealings with them have been friendly and helpful but as soon as I ask a question that is hard to answer they just stop responding.

there is something funny with the last few numbers vs the numbers i found on ECS.
Its all to do with the finish.
How much did volkspower want for postage?

In the first quote they said $30 for postage to Sydney

I got a response from them regarding the part number and they say they got the part number by entering my VIN so it should definitely be correct, but I'm still not convinced.

No 4motions, even early ones came with the standard 4/5 cylinder lip did they?
