  • New wheels

purchased a 2000 gti mk4 recently and pretty keen on modding. Chipping? exhaust? What sort of price am I looking for chipping? Same for exhausts.

Also when I was cleaning it I freaking broke the side mirrors Adjustment knob off haha. Anyone know where I can pick up a new one?

and if anyone wants to give a rundown and what people would do first modding wise. Engine is stock atm(other than a bov).

    Cheers Steve

Habve a look at the searc hfunction mate there are plenty of opinions and facts regarding products and methods to go with your car.

Search for Fuzion's build thred, Badgolfibad also, DUB20V...these guys all have very nice Mk4 GTI's

On the more mild but absolutely impressive all the same try No47Snowy
    His white GTI is perfect.

By all means though, you don't have to follow what others do...just enjoy your car and do things the way you want to do them! You'll have more fun that way

        my 2c!

mod 1: remove bov (if it is vent to atmosphere) and put a normal diverter valve on, eg apr r1 or forge 007, just cos they sound lame
        mod 2: chip
mod 3: wait for chip to make your car fall apart and mod accordingly
mod 4: replace air intake snorkel with 3" hose
mod 5: suspension (and possibly a suspension refresh kit at the same time)
mod 6: downpipe (and maybe hi flow cat also???)

leave the standard exhaust if you want to drive quick without grabbing attention

oh and add some roofracks so you can chuck on a retro surf board on top of your car just for image

        and heaps of stickers.

          Mirror adjustment knob

          Hi and welcome,

I think most of us have broken off the mirror adjustment knob at some time.

You will need to replace the whole adjustment switch (not just the knob) From memory they are about $70 from VW dealer.

Sounds just like my mod history - including the racks and surfboard. But no stickers.

              haha.

i'm actually up to mod 3.5 in my plan, and that is to get new wheels, this weekend actually!
and mod 3.5 part 2 is to remove the one sticker i do have on my car, once i put the wheels on.
and i don't want to do the air intake mod untill i get my car run on a dyno (for unrelated reasons...)
suspension is all planned, just need to save for a month or three!
And i'm not convinced i'll do the downpipe and cat, need to do more research first. worthwhile for the stock turbo?

the funny thing is i've had my roofracks since december, and actually havn't used them ONCE!
but i swear i was joking about getting them for image, and i have been for a few surfs since, just not in my car!

2.5" inch turbo back with high flow cat, on a chipped K03, will see about +10kw on a dyno.

I went turbo back, but put the stock final muffler back on to shut it up.

Tell us more about these wheels !! Pics ?

Yeah well I do want to get rid of the blowoff valve. I like the idea of keeping the exhaust standard. How much am I looking to pay for chipping? haha and does it really make my car fall apart? not cool! The person I got it off said it had pedders sports suspension. Maybe upgrade that? And whats this vent atmosphere?

venting to the atmosphere is that pssst or whooping noise during a gear change, you may sometimes hear and modded jap turbo cars.

I think its uncool, i do also believe its illegal, and there is some debate about whether it actually reduce s performance on VAG cars.

The APR DV valve I've got on mine vents internally, so the sound is still there, but very discrete.

You can get an ebay jobby for about $100, APR from states for $200, Forge unit similar price.

Easy change, takes 10 min with some plyers and a cable tie / mini cable clip, just make sure its designed for the boost you are going to have, some have different springs for different boost ranges.

I found that the vac lines had hardened and cracked when replacing the DV. So best to know you can get some real quick if it goes wrong.
