There is an illum feed to the radio too soo when the lights are on the radio will light up , it wouldnt be blank though it would normally at least show the clock. And yes there is a radio fuse no 42 on the fuse holder dash right
          cheers

My radio needed the code put in at one stage, but the display on the screen was basically blank unless you looked really closely (it just had a small number indicating the first digit of the code), so I thought it was just not working. Might be worth double checking it :p
Mine was the factory tape player with cd stacker in the boot, so yours might be different

well it definitely aint the fuse

i rem when replacing the battery that it didnt ask for a code, so i'll have to look really closely then..

I need to get my Radio code

                We recently purchased a 98 Mk4 Cabrio.
Got it back from the dealer [not VW] and the battery must have been disconnected/reconnected.
I now need the code but don't have it.
Waiting on a reply sms from former owner.

If you don't hear back you can get the code from VW dealer (Provided its the original radio that came with the car new)
You just need to provide proof of ownership (rego papers)
If the radio has been changed at some point, dealers charge about $80 to pull it out and get the serial numbers to get the code.
