  • front swaybar for lowered mk4s

    Hey guys,

got a bit of an issue with my front swaybar rubbing on my drivers side driveshaft when I turn full-lock. I have already raised the car up 5mm which stopped it for a while, but now it's coming back. I think the drop links are somehow sagging or moving with time, and it's causing the swaybar to come closer to the driveshaft.

My car isn't that low, and I really don't want to keep raising it. What is my cheapest option for an aftermarket swaybar that will give me more clearance. I say 'cheapest' because its only a 2.0 and it doesn't driven hard at all, I just want it to stop rubbing on the driveshaft.

My other thought was to just cut the swaybar and replace it with an OEM one when the time comes to sell the car, but I'd rather not do that.

I wouldnt be cutting it, bad things will happen haha.

mine was ~$300 posted from whiteline, and i got the adjustable one (so theres another which is cheaper)

is your sway bar stock currently? getting the whiteline one i dont think you even need aftermarket droplinks no matter how low you go.

EDIT: would you be fitting it? i have a second whiteline one that you can trial fit if you like

Yep mines stock at the moment.

I don't think I'd be keen on fitting one myself, as it looks like it goes through the subframe and requires a bit of work to get in/out. Is that right? Does the subframe need to be dropped?

Is your second whiteline one adjustable or fixed?

I would think shorter droplinks would be the solution, but I don't have a Mk4, so cant say for sure...

Front sway would require a bit of work to get the old one out, new one in.

do it once do it right only thing that works is a new swaybar, h&r neuspeed and so on.

alot of guys in the usa have just taken it out and used it no probs.
mk4 the mods begin for round 2 hahahha

yeah its a bit of work, really need a hoist etc. think as you said dropping the subframe is the way to go. mine was done in 2-3 hrs by my mechanic (who had never done one in a vw before)

both adjustable 22mm (think thats the smaller size) the one in my car currently is bent/curved unevenly and can only be used on the "tight" setting unless used with longer drop links (hence why i have another one, about to go in)

yes they do, too a degree, sway bar is your best bet to make it work 100% at all hieghts as far as i know.

as dub 20v said it does work without a bar, but theres obviously a reason its there... lots of comments about people on vwvortex who have removed them for good.

I don't think drop links are going to help, I already have mine at the lowest setting, its just so tight in there, not much room at all. Stupid design if you ask me, damn you vw! but anyhoo

are you going to be selling your old swaybar dylan? im so tempted just to chop mine out

as dub20v said.. do it once, do it right.

Drop links are not the answer, and on many cars you will find the setup wont feel right, stiffness is wrong, steering isnt right and sometimes snap unfortunately on occasion. (dependant on driver of course)

ive got a KW swaybar, but as said. .H&R / KW would be the top 2 i would choose.

save your pennies, do a bulk order from ECS and get whatever else you want at one hit. or keep searching, you may find one appear

Shipping would be the killer in that deal though. Otherwise it's a pretty good price isn't it.

I may be able to help there - there's some stuff in the GB we're running that wasn't in stock when we placed the order, and thus is shipping separately. Flick me a PM with what you're after if you're serious about pursuing that.

These are the two Whiteline bars available for Mk4, both say they are suitable for lowered cars

                              BAF13 22mm Heavy Duty $252

                              BAF13Z 22mm Heavy Duty Blade Adjustable - $285

would the non-adjustable one work? Dylan you said you have a whiteline bar and are upgrading to a different one, are you going from the BAF13 to BAF13Z?
