  • Help Needed - Mk4 Gti clutch

    Hey guys,

Today Ive had an issue with the clutch in my golf. Still drives in the forward gears alrite, try to put it in reverse and it just wont go in at all. Sounds like something inside is spinning, and when you try to put it in to reverse it sounds like its just grinding on it.

I can get it into reverse by starting the car in the reverse gear, but once started in reverse, it will not drop out of reverse to put it into a forwards gear. When dropping down a gear too, it kind of feels tighter and harder to get into gear than normal.

Anyone got any ideas?? Ive checked the clutch fluid levels and theyre fine. Was thinking it may be the master or slave cylinder??

or perhaps the springs on the clutch pressure plate are stuffed?
there's no synchro on reverse, so i would say that means that your clutch isn't fully disengaging so yeah perhaps that's it... just my inexperienced opinion

That's a possibility. Going in on Weds to get looked at under warranty. Just trying to get an idea so I know whats going on. Not many ppl around here know much about VW's, including the mechanics.

Yeah clearance issue, clutch is dragging there and thats why its grinding, its either like the man says pressure plate issue or you are down hydraulically. How does the pedal feel??

Pedal feels fine. Just the shifter that doesnt seem right, bit tighter going into forward gears than normal, as well as not going into reverse
