Moisture in my rear vision mirror

Sounds like your mirror has done exactly what mine just did. The electro chromatic fluid is leaking from the mirror as a result of the heat. Up untill about a year and a bit ago the manufacturer in the U.S. Donnelly / Gentex were offering free replacements with only postage to be paid. Unfortunately now that offer has passed however there is a company they will pass you over to called Sybesmas who offer a service where they send you a remanufactured mirror in exchange for yours and a fee (in my case $175usd)
Have a read of this thread http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=686228
I contacted VW and they wanted $700 for the mirror for my bora 4motionso i passed on that option very quickly.
I paid for my mirror today so i'm hoping i'll get it in shortly, i'll let you know how i go. Just keep in mind that if the fluid from the mirror leaks onto your interior, its very caustic and will eat and corrode anything it touchesso i'd recommend you get the mirror out asap!
Cheers,
Rob

Hi folks,
Many thanks for this thread! I've just purchased and fitted a rear view mirror from Sybesma's as well, and I'm extremely happy to get the issue fixed for about $270, rather than the $700 for a new unit! My V6 4-Motion Bora is feeling much more complete...
A couple of quick notes for future folks:
- I emailed Sybesma's and had a response in only a few hours. No problem shipping to Australia. Cost US$175, and you have to return your faulty mirror at your cost (about A$50).
- I had to take the old mirror off (the base outer section unclips in two parts down the middle, and I found I could easily unclip the mirror by using a small flathead screwdriver on the metal clip that holds the mirror in place) for photos so Sybesma's could ensure they were sending me the right unit
- The repaired ('new') mirror was shipped via FedEx and arrived in about a week
- The replacement mirror looked like new, and certainly worked that way!
Overall, extremely happy!

this might be an option i end up going with, since i noticed the green light in my mirror stopped glowing. but i can't see any water moisture or smell anything; i also can't tell if the auto-dim has actually stopped....'01 Saab 9-3 S

If you shine a torch close to the sensor it should dim this is best way to test.Originally posted by governor22 View Postthis might be an option i end up going with, since i noticed the green light in my mirror stopped glowing. but i can't see any water moisture or smell anything; i also can't tell if the auto-dim has actually stopped....
