  • Custom cold air intake vw golf 4 gti

Hi im new and im wondering about the custom cold air intake for my golf gti mk4.
I know you can put one on but my mechanic said something about the sensors and airflow meter and that i have to have a hole for them.
He said that it would cost me about 500 for custom piping.

Can anyone help me out or suggest someone who can do it?
    Im form Melbourne.

Won't a seat intake work just as well as any custom work but fit seemlessly with the engine?

There's a crapload of do it yourself guides here - http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1835863

just search the page for cold air intake section

it has how to install after market CAI's as well as how to mod your existing airbox....should be a job you can do yourself either way. Seems to be a bit of debate over how much advantage upgrading the CAI has over the stock boxes

I got mine from neuspeed and im really happy with it. I had a pod filter before that and it blew the AFM. The oil from the pod gets on it. The one i have now goes all the way down to the bumper so there is no problem with the AFM

Make sure that it will fit a RHD vehicle before you buy anything.
Not 100% sure about the changes they made to the American models.

they will all fit rhd cars (intake wise)

just make sure you run a dry filter like aem, pipercross or similar. do not run a k&n.

ive got an aem intake on mine, but i dont see why any of the cheaper asian copies wouldnt do the job the same as the aem personally.. same ****, diff smell lol. AEM is about $450-600 landed so bit exxy

              (my engine above)

              below is a bmc intake

below are some dodgy ones which i wouldnt recommend as you can see it'd suck hot air from the engine-bay

              What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

Yer im thinking of the getting the AEM one for my GTI and also what paint did you use for the engine cover because i wouldn't mind painting mine blue.

One of the best intakes out there for the 1.8T is the EVOMS V-Flow with Stage 2. It has 6" Venturi intake which is twice the size of most others. The V-Flow design has been proven on many Euro turbo cars right up to extremely high powered Porsches. Great company with very high quality products and a big emphasis on R&D and real world results.

                  Cheers,

hey fellas, question, has anyone any proof that oiled k&n's disrupt the maf's?

If you oil the filter properly (as in don't over-oil it), then it should not. Most of the reports of MAF failure caused by oiled air filters were as a result of too much oil being applied to the filter and the excess being sucked into the intake.

Oil on your MAF can certainly cause bad readings, and if left alone, it can potentially cause permanent damage.

yeh thats what i thought.. people just over oil them.. i can understand how it can suck it into the maf, just asking coz i just put a k&n pod on. managed to fit it into the stock airbox too. also upgraded the inlet pipe into the box.. feels less restrictive up in the rev range i find..and no loss of torque down low.

def a good idea mate just remember with the pod filters the idea is cold air. So if you want effectivness i suggest a enclosed casing or heat shield to channel the cold air from, ducting from the front of the vehicle to the pod.

Alternitavley if your cheap like me? you can use the oem box filter, all it needs is piping from the front of the vehicle to the airbox, then maybe a performance pannel air filter in the box. Possibly you will have to make some sortof adapter for the new hose going into the air box.
