Very interesting.....I still reckon u have to give more time for the oil to settle longer thou...Nulon i have used...Royal purple i use as well but 1kw diff in V8 test makes me wonder the testing needs more revision
The closest I've seen to "lab testing" of oil performance was the tests that Street Commodore had done on a variety of oils, checking their shear ratings on a custom built test rig (there's a PDF of the article floating around). Royal Purple won that, though I don't off the top of my head remember if all the oils had the same ratings, and as we know, lubricity isn't the be-all and end-all of oils (there's no point having a super-slippery oil that's too thick to be pumped through your engine, or that's so thin that it never actually binds to anything and runs off too quick.
this was a shear out power test where they figureed which oils allowed for the highest power figures to the wheels.
but if we compare oils for their overall wear protection and cleaning agents its no doubt that oils like royal purple, castrol and mobil are on top.
saying you can achieve the most kw figures from your oil doesnt mean its the best. god knows how quick your engine components is wearing out comparing to oils that maintain a controlled friction (but slightly less power).
dont be fooled. you can have high power figures but you can also be stressing your engine beyond belief!

True....best way to start is look at ur fuel consumption!!!!!
hey guys just giving a total thumbs up for castrol edge 5w30 on the bora v6' 4motion motors.
~i had pretty obvious timing chain noise and this stuff has completely eliminated the noise and has made the engine so damn quiet.
~cold starts have also improved dramatically as engine reaches temp quickly.
~oil consumption has also plummeted and engines responds nice and smooth to this oil.
~and offcoarse the oil complies with VW: 502 00/505 00.
what else could you ask for.
highly recomended.
Just changed the Bora's oil today with Castrol Edge Sport 5W-30 and the miracle juice did wonders for me as well
I had some pretty ugly timing chain noise that has now been virtually wiped out..
Havent had a chance to notice cold starts as the Global Warming was doing its best to keep my engine at 90degrees in the shade today - I will update in coming days.
Cant recommend this stuff enough!
