  • Coolant for my R32

So this morning i was greeted by the Stop light on my dash with Low Coolant showing. Ergh. Walk to the station time.

In the past i have just used whatever green coolant i could find as i had cars i didn't care about nearly as much as the R. Now in the manual it says to use the VW stuff (the red stuff). I am guessing this is advisable but wanted to check whether it was any different or just a money making scam by VW.

The next thing is finding out where it has gone to. Haven't checked the coolant level in a few weeks but last check it was full so worried a hose may have gone or something. Any usual suspects here?

There are plenty of places for the coolant to leak from.
I had a few leaks where the hoses had shrunk somewhat.
You might spot the leak by looking for pinkish powder (dry coolant)

Get the coolant in the book (G12), normal coolant does not mix well. Water alone will not provide enough lubricant for water pump internals.

I personally would only use the recommended G12 coolant. It is pricey from the dealer at i think $25 per 1.5L bottle. You will need two bottles if your doing a full top up. If anyone could clarify as to whether G12 is the ONLY recommended way to go this would be good.

The coolant recommendation is one worth following. It has a different chemical makeup to the standard green stuff.

Pop your oil cap and make us all happy by telling us there's no white foam underneath it...
          Nothing to see here...

So check it and we'll all be happy when your oil's clean!

Checked this morn and all looked ok. Topped her up but just had the station run so will take it for a proper dtrive tonight to see if it holds it's coolant level.
