My understanding was that there were no automatic 4Motions released in Australia (all coming with the 02M 6-speed manual gearbox).

If it *were* an auto, they're filled "for life" from the factory, and you don't do changes on them.

                No worries!

Goodfella and I have Redline Shockproof Lightweight in ours, on recommendation from several sources (well, he has it in his gearbox, I'm waiting to put it in).

where does one get this from Manaz? Is there a specific code that goes with it?
Is it easy enough job for the (crap) home mechanic?

                  Cheers!

Groups like Repco, Autobarn, etc can supply it, though I know goodfella got ours cheaper than any of the other places could get it for us - I'll get him to post details.

Gotta get the car up, remove the plugs, drain all the existing fluid (I know this gets done by at least one mechanic with a large syringe with a piece of hosing on the end to get into the box), and then replace it all again (using the same syringe device). The plugs are on one side of the box rather than under it, so it doesn't simply drain out.

Repco sell a much larger fluid changing device for around $50 which would make it significantly easier to do, I've been considering purchasing it myself.

                        Many thanks boys!

edit - actually, there are a couple of different ones there for $27

which one is it and is there a specific weight/code I need to be getting?

"Proper selection depends upon the manufacturers' requirements and whether the application is for passenger automotive, commercial, or racing use."

it'll just be for street use (commuting with the occassional spirited drive)

and it's an 01 with 137k on the clock

                        Cheers!

In your 02M box i would recommend MT-90 Redline, around 2.6 litres as you drain the bevel through the same plug, so really you will change the trans and the bevel at the smae time FTW.
Toolbox in a bottle, as is MTL for the other boxes
