  • Possible to install POD air filter on GTI?

    Hey Gang,

It is possible to install an aftermarket air filter on a 2000 Golf GTI? I went today to have a look but the only adapter they had that said 'Golf' on it would not fit on a GTI.

If anyone has any details or part numbers or info etc that would be great!

    Cheers.

    hey mate,

not worth doing at all, it will make noise but not give you any performance as you'll be sucking hot air up instead.

get yourself something like an AEM Intake or something (eg: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AEM-C...spagenameZWD2V)

otherwise just get some 3" tubing from the front of your bar into your stock airbox (most effective)

check here for install diy instructions: http://bambergvr6.50megs.com/stock_airbox_cai.htm

      hey blue reality,
half the people that I know have a pod and the other half have the airbox mod.I personally have the mod but I am thinking about the Carbonio cai.I dont know if there are any stockists in Aust but you can go to the U.S ebay site and find it easily.
If you want to do the airbox mod with a k&n panel,im happy to show you my car or give you a hand to do yours.
      pm me.

gpk, k&n's ruin your MAF! its not wise to run a oil based filter if you do. apparently its a big no no on the dubs, $250+ for a maf isnt friendly if it dies! if you do run one however do NOT reoil it and buy another one and apparently that way its fine and wont cause any problems. i wouldnt take the chance but most guys who i have heard running them just change filters as i said and have been all ood!

pipercross or a dry filter of some sort is your best option if you go down the aftermarket line of filters

gpk, you might be better off in cost wise getting an AEM over a carbonia as you know they are very exxy!

if you like their stuff, try this place gpk, much cheaper same carbon stuff

try http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2237668 it has lots of pictures/listing of all the common cold air intakes for the golfs if your not wanting to do the airbox mod.

ebay search as mentioned to find them but remember shipping is a killer on something this large from the US!
