  • Proud New Owner of a MKIV GTI

    Hey Gang,

Just picked up my GTI last night and I've gotta say I love it.

I used to own a 180SX type X with front mount, full exhaust and boost and as it was old and clocking up the km I sold it and for some reason thought a Jeep would be a good idea! Hmmm..... wrong.

Anyway so I bought a Jeep 10 weeks ago and it was just so big and such a guzzler that I had to find a car that would be fun, practicle, turbo and less than 8 years old and a friend at work directed me to this site.

So thanks to all of you for your help and all of the articles on here etc - It meant that I could go and look at cars armed with lots of knowledge.

I got a black 2000 model because I wanted the Recaro interior and sunroof.

I had it fully checked before I bought it and it was advertised for $18,000 but the guy had to sell ASAP as rego is due in 2 weeks so I offered him $15,200 and he took it! It's insured for $22,000.

And I've gotta say that in stock form I'm impressed with the power - esspecially off the line and around corners. Feels mush tighter than my import did and it had Tein coilovers!

So I'm really excited and now the only thing I have to find out is where I can get services etc in Sydney?

    Cheers!

Congratulations on the purchase. I have had my GTi for about 3 weeks now and I love it too.

That's a great price you picked yours up for. I paid 18,200 for my 2001 model, but it's only done 64,000 k's so I thought it was a good buy. How many k's has yours done? Plans for mods yet? If not I'm sure they won't be far away, hehe.

for both yourself and the other new owner. start saving for your mods now lol

Im sure you've read other threads and people have responded, get yourself a GIAC/APR/REVO chip, KW Suspension / Bilstein / H&R and im sure you'll be quite happy for quite sometime. Expect to pay about $1600 for a chip upgrade which for most takes you to the 140-145 at the fly wheel (approx 110-115 at the front wheels with cai and chip only) Suspension is about $1500 upwards depending on the setup of your choice, wether its coilovers or a spring/sport shock combo!

                        Oopps

                        Congrads,

I just bought a 2001 Gti from the Sydney region also. unfortunately the next day on the way to the RTA an 80year old man decided he would merge in front of me and perform a U-turn. I used as much of my BMW driver training as i could to avoid the situation but unfortunately my car ended up second best. wasn't even registered in my name yet!!

Currently in process of arguing with NRMA who is at fault. i know it will be me because i have the higher excess (since both parties are with NRMA)

So to all you folk who have just bought a GTI. be careful. don't end up where i am, i.e about to lose my car for two weeks to the panel beaters.

                        regards,

                        Ben

P.S that golf for 15,200. that car didn't happen to be from auburn or rockdale did it? if so, sucked in to the guy you bought it, cause i was going to offer him more!

That sucks big time dude, sorry to hear that hey! If you need a good repairer (nrma approved) in the eastern side/near airport too let me know. They do a lot of VWs (well almost 50%+ of their work)

Thats a tough call though, did he fail to give way to on coming traffic, were you speeding and what not excuses they'll come up with!

Good luck for it tho! Lucky you put insurance over it first tho!

Good luck with NRMA, no doubt they will be pushing the "hoon" agenda and try to pin you with it. I have had great difficulties in my experience with NRMA with my other car. Commiserations for the new car.

I don't understand what that means. Sucked in to the guy who bought it (me) because you were going to buy it for more? I don't get it.

Anyway I got it from a guy from Rockdale.

There are no mods yet but I'm looking forward to getting some extras in the near future.

When and where is the GTG?

And thanks for posting up the service info. Do you know about how much I should expect to pay for a routine check and service?
