  • Aftermarket Radio Antenna Plug for MK4 Golf's

    Hey Guys

Not sure how many of you have encountered this before and had a search around which didn't bring up much. Just wanting to know if any of you have obtained an aftermarket adaptor which allows you to connect any aftermarket headunit to the factory antenna cable.

If so where did you source it from as a couple of audio stores i've approached wanted $40 for the pleasure which i thought was a little excessive. Theres a few i saw up on ebay for a quarter of the price but not really sure if its what i should be getting.

Hopefully what i described makes sense...

    Cheers guys
    Naz

You can buy just the European aerial plug for $4 from Autobarn or probably any of the other stores. But the issue with using just the adaptors is that the reception comes out shocking. The one that you were quoted $40 on would have been the plug with the booster in it, which is what the mk 4's need so that the radio will sound good.

Resurrecting old thread, since I replaced my stock Eurovox with a Sony head unit today. The adaptor from Jaycar will indeed give lousy reception, because it's missing a bit. There should be a small pin in the centre of the part that connects to your antenna cable.

HOWEVER!! If you still have the Eurovox HU, you can just pull this pin out of it (comes right out with a pair of pliers) and push it in place. Works a treat, good strong signal strength.

I paid $40 for mine from alberts. It is steep, but its a quality product. And for $20 more than autobarn/jaycar i think its worth it. The reception is crystal clear eventhough i just cut off the top of my antenna

Merlin 8r- Hey mate you were right about the Jaycar adaptor giving lousy reception. Well lousy is a little over the top, but in some areas i get crappy FM reception, but regardless of where i am i dont get any AM reception.

What is this small bit you refer to that is missing? Do you have a picture you should show me as to? Are you referring to the pin like dead set in the middle of the plug? I think i know what your referring to but dont want to pulling out the wrong thing

Justin - I just ended up getting my self an Eclipse AVN unit. One of those all in one units. Only pain was getting it to installed securely into the plastic cage as it doesnt come with any mounting hardware or that metal cage alot of head units come with. Also i have a gap around the edges which i might see if i can get soem plastic fascia trim to fill it with

Nik - Is the one you both for $40 just the adapter plug? Or does it have like an amplication module with it as well?

Yep, that's exactly the thing. It's not attached to anything, but is a tight fit so you'll need a pair of pliers to get it out.

So the actual pin is on the headunit? Does that mean once pulled out i can't put it back in again if i want to put that factory headunit back in place?
