  • HELP!! Noisy R

    Hi all,

driving home yesterday on the m4, i changed down a gear and as i let the clutch out a loud clunk came from motor/gearbox. I pulled over and had a look but couldnt see anything, as i went to takeoff again the vibrations and noise in 1st to 4th didnt sound healthy at all and the clunking noise happened every time i let the clutch out, only once at 100km in 6th did it seem to drive ok again, still not normal ... i have a feeling it is either egine or gearbox mounts ... Any other thoughts or suggestions

Alredy there, dropped it off first thing this morning ... at first look he thinks that the front engine mount has gone but will confirm once up on the lift

It's not unusual for them to go they are a viscous mount and mine went after the first event I entered the car into. The fluid tends to leak out of the bladder. You will probably find an aftermarket solution like the 3 VF Mounts are a more robust and economical solution if they do need replacing.

          Hey guys

thanks for everyting ... in the end it was the dogbone which had completely snapped which i found really strange as i replaced the stock one with an INA engineering one about 6 months ago ... so the stock one is backin and everthing is running properly again

Al what are the VF Engineering like to drive with?

          Cheers

If you're looking at up-rating your dogbone mount again, look at just replacing the stock one with a bush kit from Harding Performance ($90) or through Dub Addiction($approx 50)

Much cheaper than replacing the whole mount (which doesn't really need replacing) and by the sounds of it, stronger too!

the $50 one does exactly the same thing as the apr super priced one imo.

i have a forge, and had no issue.. powerflex are readily available (forge use them)

              grab one from Tim!

That's the second dogbone mount from INA that I've heard of breaking. I hope I have my old one laying around somewhere in case the unfortunate happens...

Matt I love my VF mounts, I have all three and to me they are not harsh at all though as you know I don't use the car on the street or as a daily and my suspension is set very stiff so your mileage may vary. In saying that I have had them in the car for around 30000 kilometres and they still look and perform like new and that is through numerous rallies and track days. VF have always looked after me and i wouldn't hesitate to use them.

                    Cheers Al

I would just contact Issam straight up. He is a member on the forum here and should take care of you. He's normally pretty good from what I've heard. I've heard about a couple of the mounts failing (dodgy batch maybe) but for the most part the feedback remains positive for the majority. Touch wood too hey.
                            Cheers,

is it conceivable that excessive engine movement from other faulty mounts could cause extra strain on an uprated dogbone? id be making sure they are all in tip top shape
