  • quick question about bigger rims

Hey fellas, toying with the idea of either putting 17" or 18" rims on my mk4 gti, problem is it's not lowered, so will it look stupid? (it has 16"montreal's at the moment and i do like the comfort.)

or should i just get some really awesome semi slick tires and be done with it?
if anyone has some pics of stock golf gti's with 18's i'd be happy to see them!

I would lower it and do the rims.

Otherwise it may tend to look like a 4wd and make the rims not look as nice and the car as well.

It'll just look the same with new wheels, i had my 18s on for over a year still in 4x4 height, it did want me want to lower it more, but i dont think it had any negative effects on the look of the car, even my mum said it was a improvement! so must have been ok haha

All it does it draws your eye to the nice big shiny wheels, so the next thing you see is the height of the arch above the wheel

Its not a Gti, but the link in my signature is before and after of mine if thats any help.

Any ideas on what wheels you want?

This is stock ride height with 17" rims, I think it looks normal, but then my rims are very OEM. Ride height wont be stock for much longer though.

              R32 18" OEM wheel, moderately lowered http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...ad.php?t=32396

Look perfect for me, I don't want crazy low.

Putting bigger wheels on brings the outside edge of the wheel (not tyre!) closer to your guards anyway, so if anything, the car will look lower sitting on bigger wheels without additional lowering.
                Nothing to see here...

Lower the car on stock wheels, looks a lot better than standard height with bigger wheels...

i thought my R was ok height before i lowered it. Now the stock ones look like 4wds
Make sure you lower it, its not expensive and it gives so much to the look of the car

19's. but everytime i put the 17s back on for a few weeks omg its so much more fun and smoother to drive with.

i wouldnt go over 18s imo personally! (even tho i have 19s lol)
